There’s something majestic about horses. While they are elegant and rhythmic as they glide across the landscape, they are still very strong. While they are wild and free, they can still be tamed and loyal. It’s no wonder that children across the world grew up loving these gentle creatures – and that adults continue to love them. I wanted to make a rustic card that showcases a respectful admiration of horses (a mature look at a child’s admiration). Here’s a card I made with Stampin’ Up!’s Let It Ride stamp set:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Horses. Galloping, resting, gazing. There are three stamp images with horses in Let It Ride, and each one captures a different energy. The variety of sentiments in the set are also pretty wonderful. These stamps can be used to make cards for boys, girls, men or women. Here’s a look at the Let It Ride stamp set:
The background panels on my card are patterns found in Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this pack of papers:

- Little Details. I am really happy with how some elements on this card came together. The horse is framed like a photo on a wall – a perfect tribute to a favorite horse. I stamped the horse on Thick Whisper White with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and colored the image with Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends and Soft Suede Stampin’ Blends. I washed over the entire image with a Color Lifter for a lighter effect and cropped it with a square from the Layering Squares Framelits Dies:
I added a little scallop trim behind the photo for a sweet touch to the card. I cropped a scalloped square from the Layering Squares Framelits Dies and then lined it up on my Stampin’ Trimmer to build the scalloped trim. The pieces overlap behind the frame. Here’s a graphic you can save or share:
- Warm Colors. While these warm colors are usually brought out in Fall, they seemed perfect for my horse. If you like this combination of Crumb Cake, Soft Suede and Cajun Craze, please save this:
Stamp Sets: Let It Ride Papers: Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Thick Whisper White Inks: Tuxedo Black Memento, Stampin’ Blends (Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Color Lifter) Accessories: Layering Squares Framelits Dies, Layering Ovals Framelits Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you like my sweet horse card – and that you’ll give this set another look-see if you don’t already have it.

There are so many things about this card I love: the colors, the layers, the textures, but my fav is the font on the sentiment. Go figure!
