I love the clash between orange and pink. Whether it’s soft mix of pink and orange (like a sorbet or a sunset) or a bright mix of pink and orange (like a bouquet of roses or a flamingo), these two colors never seem like they should look great together (but always do). This week’s color challenge at FabFriday pushed me to make a bright, Fall-themed card with this fun mix of Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card: Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Two Fall Bundles. My card features pumpkins (and accents of wheat sprays) that are from the Gather Together Bundle – one of several Fall-themed products in Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Holiday Catalog. I have showcased the leaves and sentiments from this bundle, but this is the first time I’ve showcased the darling pumpkins and spray of wheat. Very festive, huh? Here’s a look at the Gather Together Bundle (which includes the Gather Together photopolymer stamp set and Gathered Leaves Dies):The sentiment on my card is from the Harvest Hellos stamp set (the bundle includes the Apple Builder punch that can also be used to build a pumpkin). How fun is that?! I love the typeset look of these sentiments – and “give thanks” is exactly what I wanted to say on my card. Here’s a look at the Harvest Hellos Bundle:
- Black Borders. I often include thin borders around elements on my cards (OK, often is an understatement…I almost always include thin borders). Not only do the layers on today’s card have a thin, black border, but the cropped pumpkins do, too. Here’s a closer look:I stamped the pumpkins with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo cardstock. After I cropped them with the Gathered Leaves Dies, I colored the area between the stamped image and the edge of the cropped image with a Basic Black Stampin’ Blend to give each one its very own black frame.
- Layer Measurements. When I find a layout that would be universal to lots of projects, I like to share the measurements I used. If you like this layout and want to use it for one of your projects, be prepared to adjust the measurements as necessary – different sizes may work better with the images and colors you choose. Here are the measurements for the layers I used on this card (starting with the card base and working my way up):
- Melon Mambo – 4-1/4″ x 11″ (scored at 5-1/2″)
- Stampin’ Dimensionals
- Basic Black – 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″
- Pumpkin Pie – 3-3/4″ x 5″
- Basic Black – 3-3/4″ x 1-5/8″
- Melon Mambo – 3-3/4″ x 1-1/2″
- Stampin’ Dimensionals
- Basic Black – 3-1/4″ x 3-1/4″
- Whisper White – 3-1/8″ x 3-1/8″
- Melon Mambo & Pumpkin Pie – cropped with the Gathered Leaves Dies

🙂 Thanks so much, Windy! It’s a fun color combo.
Love the tip about coloring the edges of a die cut to provide a border. Brilliant! Everyone knows you are the wizard of borders and matting, and this is just one more example! (PS: I saw this card posted on your Facebook page at 1 AM –I know why I was awake, [and I know you are one of the hardest working people ever] , but do you EVER sleep?!) Awesome card.
I work on this stuff A LOT, but…my Facebook post was scheduled to go live at 1am at the same time as my FabFriday post. I was 100% not awake at that hour. 🙂 Thanks so much, Linda! ♥
Brian-your cards are so clean and crisp! Love the different colors used in this one. By the way, I’ll be using your card design for my class this week with gather together/peacock — Simple but great! Thanks for sharing.

Awww…thanks, Kadie! The colors were really fun to play with.
This color combo is outside my comfort zone but definitely works for this beautiful card. Have a great day!
Thanks, Hilda! I’ve moved away from super-bright colors over the years, but I had fun playing with these again. The black helped a bit. 🙂
