Toile Christmas for GDP212

I made two projects for this week’s CASE the Designer Challenge at the Global Design Project. I shared my first project on Monday (you can see it here). I’m excited to share the second card today. What fun! Here’s my card:

Toile Christmas, Greatest Part of Christmas, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAnd here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

GDP212When we CASE (Copy and Share Everything or Copy and Selectively Edit), we find inspiration in a project – theme, color combinations, layout, products used – and create our own project by making changes to make it our own.  When CASEing, it’s important to give credit to the original designer – it doesn’t take away from your project at all.

While inspiration from Manuela’s card might be a little hard to find at first, it’s there! Not only is the focal point of my project featured on a beautiful, blue square, but the star of the card is featured in the bottom, right of that square. What wonderful inspiration from Manuela!

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Toile Christmas Bundle. As many times as I have shared projects with the stamps and dies in the Toile Christmas Bundle, it’s hard to believe this is the first time I’ve created with this gorgeous cardinal. Manuela’s card, though, gave me the inspiration I needed to ink up the cardinal and bring him to life on this card. Here’s a look at the Toile Christmas Bundle:Toile Christmas Bundle, Stampin' Up! 152367I’ve not figured it out yet, but all of my St. Louis, Missouri friends grabbed up this stamp set the very moment it was made available. 🙂
  • Beautiful Red Cardinal. I stamped the gorgeous cardinal with Tuxedo Black Memento ink on Thick Whisper White cardstock. I set it aside for a while to let the ink dry completely and then covered him with Real Red Stampin’ Blends. Here’s a closer look: Toile Christmas, Greatest Part of Christmas, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingBecause the bird is already shaded in the stamped design, it was easy for me to decide where to apply the Dark Real Red ink and the Light Real Red ink. So easy to color a beautiful bird with very little effort needed.
  • Color Combination. Crumb Cake is such a classic, beautiful neutral tone. I love the texture in this gorgeous paper, too! While Pool Party plays such an important part in this card, it’s the combination of Real Red (the bird), Crumb Cake (the base) and Mint Macaron (the leaves) that makes me so happy. Seems like a beautiful mix of colors for Christmas. If you like this mix of Mint Macaron, Crumb Cake and Real Red, please save this: Stampin' Up!
