Simple Sympathy

Sometimes “simple” can work really well. I often worry that something “too simple” will be dull, but I can sometimes surprise myself. Today I’m sharing a note card I made with participants at a workshop this past weekend. Since the gathering included stampers of all levels (including those who’d never stamped before), I made sure to include this quick-and-easy-and-beautiful card. Here’s my card:

Timeless Tropical, Peaceful Moments, Stampin Up!, Brian KingTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Build a Circle. It’s one of the oldest tricks in the stamping book – but it’s effective, beautiful and always fun to try. I started by cutting a piece of cardstock the size of my card base and punched a big circle with my 2-1/4″ Circle Punch. I placed the template over the card base, holding it tightly, and sponged Pool Party into the circle, moving in circular motions. You can apply multiple layers of color, but you don’t have to overdo it. As you can see from the picture above, I left a little touch of white in the center of the circle (it adds artistic effect). I used the same technique for this card from two years ago (you can click on the picture to see my original post):Remarkable You, Butterfly Basics, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS209
  • Timeless Tropical. After you have created the perfect circle on the card base, the palm trees from Timeless Tropical are a perfect accent. They can be as appropriate for a sympathy card as a congratulations card – it all depends on the sentiment you pair with the image. I love these palm trees, though, because they add height to the circle and create a beautiful silhouette. • Peaceful Moments. How gorgeous is the sentiment on this card? Not only does it say exactly what you want to say when someone needs you love and support, but it’s a beautiful font that seamlessly pairs printed and scripted words. I love that!
