As soon as I saw Janneke’s card at the Global Design Project, I knew I’d be playing along with this week’s challenge. Janneke’s sweet card is a burst of Spring, and I wanted to play with the layout, colors and overall design of her card. What fun! Here’s my card:

GDP 236Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • CASEing. There are so many places to find inspiration for the projects we make – I love the opportunity to create a project that’s inspired by the art of another designer. Always a joy! This week’s Global Design Project challenge encourages us to create a card that CASEs a card by one of the designers. When we CASE (Copy and Share Everything or Copy and Selectively Edit), we find inspiration in a project – theme, color combinations, layout, products used – and create our own project by making changes to make it our own.  When CASEing, it’s important to give credit to the original designer – it doesn’t take away from your project at all. It’s easy to see where Janneke’s project inspired me. Like Connie, I showcased a Stitched Nested Labels Die in the center of my card with a floral design along the bottom side. I also accented the die cutout with a soft pop of yellow.
  • Fun Layering. There’s a lot of layering on this simple card – and two of the bases are die cut from the Stitched Nested Labels Dies. Tasteful Textures, Best Dressed Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, Brian KingI used a portion of the large die from the Springtime Impressions Dies to add a vine of beautiful leaves to this gorgeous panel of paper from the Best Dressed 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. Here’s a look at these dies:Springtime Impressions Dies, Stampin Up! 146326I added a sentiment from Tasteful Textures to the green vine with a 2″ Circle Punch. Beneath all of that is a So Saffron panel of Perennial Essence 12″ x 12″ Designer Vellum Cardstock.
  • Color Combination. I pulled the colors for my card from the focal panel from the Best Dressed 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Best Dressed 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper: Best Dressed 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! 151319Even though the page from the Best Dressed 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper I chose for this card features a design with Daffodil Delight, the yellow was watercolor-blended enough to showcase various shades of yellow. That’s why the So Saffron vellum backdrop I used from the Perennial Essence 12″ x 12″ Designer Vellum Cardstock coordinates so well.Perennial Essence Vellum Cardstock, Stampin' Up! 149101If you like this mix of Purple Posy, So Saffron and Mint Macaron I used in my card, please save this for future reference: Stampin Up!
