While my Stampin’ Up! team and I are quarantined across the country, I’ve been hosting more Facebook Live meetups in our team’s Facebook group. Over the weekend, InKing Royalty team member (and wonderful friend of mine) Jennifer Spiller gave us a class in water coloring. I don’t consider myself a water color artist, but I put some of the techniques to work on my watercolor paper and made this card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Silhouette Scenes Bundle. The gorgeous die-cut tree on my card is part of the Sweet Silhouettes Dies that are also part of the Silhouette Scenes Bundle. Both the stamp set and coordinating dies will be carrying forward into Stampin’ Up!’s 2020 Annual Catalog, but the bundled pricing goes away on June 2 (you get a 10% discount on both the stamp set and dies when you buy them together). Here’s a look at the Silhouette Scenes Bundle:

- Water Colored Ombré. The 2-1/4″ circle behind the detailed tree leaves was part of the project I created after Jennifer shared some water coloring techniques with us. On a piece of Fluid 100 water color paper, I painted an ombré effect with a mix of Pool Party and Bermuda Bay ink. This is not what I created, but Stampin’ Up!’s marketing pictures for the Fluid 100 paper gives you a good idea of what it looked like:
I cropped my water colored textures with a 2-1/4″ Circle punch. Here’s a closer look at the finished project:
- Color Combination. I’ve always loved the combination of Bermuda Bay and Night of Navy. Before gluing everything down, those were the only colors in the card (the base of the card was Night of Navy). I decided I needed to add something new and unexpected, but I didn’t want something too bright. Garden Green was exactly the color I needed (and never would have thought I did if I hadn’t tried several options). If you like this unexpected combination of Bermuda Bay, Garden Green and Night of Navy, please save this for future reference:

Bundles: Silhouette Scenes Stamp Sets: Well Said Papers: Garden Green, Bermuda Bay, Night of Navy, Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper Inks: Bermuda Bay, Pool Party, Night of Navy Accessories: Sweet Silhouettes Dies, 2-1/4″ Circle Punch, Aqua Painters, Stampin’ Dimensionals

You WOW’ed me on this card my friend.
Look at you rockin’ the aquapainters! Jenn Spiller is a good teacher! Very pretty card!
Awesome project…perfect to start small and then get practise for a larger area sometime.
That was my goal. So glad you like it, Windy!
I love your watercolored background. Great job for this beautiful card. Enjoy your day!
Thanks so much, Hilda! The water coloring was fun – I’ll have to give it another try. ♥
Beautiful color combinations. I love that stamp set.
Thank you so much, Liz! ♥
The tone on tone with the navy tree is OFF THE CHAIN! Absolutely fantastic concept!
Thank you so much, Mary! ♥
Ditto to the above comments…and I see Halloween inspiration. That is one great tree that I’ve overlooked!
Funny you should mention it. I added to Garden Green base to steer a bit further away from Halloween. The die is gorgeous. Glad you like it.
Another stunning card, per usual! Thank you for the inspiration!!
Thank you so much, Yvonne! I always love to hear that. ♥
Love this card. Nice job on the water coloring, and that color combo is great.
I think you did a great job Brian. Jennifer is so gifted when it comes to watercolor I’m positive her class was amazing.
