While we have begun our annual shift to Fall colors, birthdays still deserve the bright, joyful colors they have enjoyed all Spring and Summer. This week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge gave me another opportunity to break out my So Much Happy Bundle and create a simple, celebratory card that’s sure to bring a smile. Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- So Much Happy Bundle. When I first saw this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch Challenge, I immediately thought of the string of tiny banners in the So Much Happy Bundle. How adorable! As I started to play, though, I decided I wanted to showcase “HAPPY” in a different way (by cropping off the top band above the letters in the word. Who doesn’t love to see the word “HAPPY”? It’s even better when it’s not constrained by a band above it. 🙂 In addition to the “HAPPY” die, I also used the starry balloon from the stamp set and the coordinating balloon, balloon string, bow and stars from the bundle. Here’s a look at the So Much Happy Bundle:
- Cut Out the Happy! The Happy Dies crop the word “HAPPY” out of the center of a piece of cardstock – on the card below (which I shared last month), I cropped the happy out of the Daffodil Delight piece and added the Seaside Spray strips above and below (you can click on the photo below to see my original post for this card):
On the card I shared today, though, I cut the word out along the edge of a piece of Melon Mambo Cardstock and then snipped off the top of the words that were connected to the other side of the cardstock. Here’s a closer look:
I still left the word attached to the base band, but I cut the top piece right off! ♥ I stamped the balloon in Mango Melody and cropped it with the dies. I cropped the balloon string and bow with the dies (using adhesive sheets to make it easy for me to glue them down and layer them on my card). I added the three stars (also from the dies) to balance everything on the card (and pull in the stars from the balloon).
- Cheerful Birthday Colors. I mixed three Brights, one Subtle and one Neutral to make this bold and happy birthday card. Any three of these colors look great together (go ahead, put you hand over one of them), but together (and in the right balance), they are a wonderful combination. If you like them as much as I do, please save this for future reference:
Bundles: So Much Happy Stamp Sets: So Much Happy, Well Said Papers: Melon Mambo, Night of Navy, Pool Party, Thick Whisper White Inks: Mango Melody, Night of Navy Accessories: Happy Dies, Adhesive Sheets, Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

LOVE this bundle……and your card is considered a “happy” card to me.
Thanks, Kadie! I couldn’t agree with you more about the bundle. Glad you like the card. ♥
This is a great take on the sketch. I love this bright, fun card. The color combination is perfect. Love the Happy die. Enjoy your day!
Thank you so much, Hilda! I love Fall colors, but these bright tones were fun to play with. Hope your day is great!
There is always a need for birthday cards and today’s card is certainly a happy one. Love that you cut off the top bar on happy so that it looks like it’s sitting on a shelf. Happy day to you Brian (I know, it’s not your birthday yet)! LOL You still deserve a happy day birthday or no birthday.
🙂 Thank you so much, Grace! I was happy to have this fun sketch as an inspiration to make this card (I wouldn’t have, otherwise, made it). Glad you like it and appreciate your happy wishes. 🙂 Back at you!
The colors certainly are happy ones…you made each card look extra special. This is truly a very versatile stamp set and your creativity shows on each card!!
Wow, the happy and balloon really pop! Fun card!
So bright and bold…..like you!
