Merry Christmas with Plush Poinsettia

I’m ready to stir up some controversy today – I’m willing to rustle some feathers! Today I’m talking about poinsettias – that’s right – poinsettias! When you read that word, how did it sound in your brain? There are several ways to pronounce the word poinsettia, but some of them are just wrong. According to scholars (aka Wikipedia), it’s either poin-set-ee-uh or poin-set-uh. As a proper Southerner, our Christmas flower doesn’t include a “t” in the middle (like some crazy people in California say) or an “i” at the end (for us, the “i” is silent). The last “i” is just a waste of a perfectly good letter. ♥

I used the Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper to make a sweet and simple card. Here’s my card:

Peace and Joy, Stampin' Up, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Plush Poinsettia. The Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper, part of the Poinsettia Place Suite in Stampin’ Up!’s August – December 2020 Mini Catalog, features gorgeous vellum papers with white flocked designs. There are six pieces (2 each of three designs in each pack). Not only are these papers great for a beautiful background, but some of them can be cropped with the Poinsettia Dies. How fun is that?! • Adding color. I wasn’t sure how I would use this white-flocked vellum paper, but I knew I wanted to play around with it. Just to see how it would look, I scribbled over the smooth backs of some of the paper with a Stampin’ Blend. That simple step changed the color of the vellum backing – such fun! I colored each of the three designs with three colors and cropped them with a 2-1/4″ Circle punch:   Peace and Joy, Stampin' Up, Brian KingThe sentiment on the front of my card is a combination of three from the Peace & Joy Bundle. I stamped each of the word blocks, carefully lining them up in one string, and the snipped them out with my paper snips. I adhered those to the Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper circles with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals. The only glue I added to the circles (to attach them to the Thick Whisper White panel) is hidden behind this sentiment. Here’s a look at the Peace & Joy Bundle:Peace & Joy Bundle, Stampin Up! 155167
  • Color Trio. I was playing with Real Red and Old Olive Stampin’ Blends on the back of this paper before I ever know I’d turn these pieces into a card. What better way to round out the festive green and red than with a beautiful blue? If you love this mix of Pool Party, Old Olive and real red as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration - Pool Party, Old Olive, Real Red
