The JOY of Playing with Paper

I love to play with Designer Series Paper – they are the foundation for most of my cards. Since the Heartwarming Hugs Designer Series Paper was first released, I’ve been in love with the mix of colors and bold patterns. One of my favorites is a page of stripes that’s fashionable and bold. I played with that paper for today’s joy-filled card:

Joy Dies, Poinsettia Dies, Stampin Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Two Christmas Dies. It wasn’t until I was done with this card that I realized it uses no stamps and no ink. How fun when that happens! The focal point of my card is  a layered “Joy” and a beautiful spray of holly leaves that coordinate with the greens in the card’s backdrop. The words are layered with the Joy Dies, part of the Peace & Joy Bundle – I love how these words layer together with the dies. Here’s a look at the Peace & Joy Bundle: Peace & Joy Bundle, Stampin Up! 155167The spray of holly behind the word are cropped from the Poinsettia Dies, part of the Poinsettia Petals Bundle. • Heartwarming Paper Play. While the “joy” sentiment and beautiful holly leaves are sweet, it’s the background of panel of Heartwarming Hugs Designer Series Paper that’s the star of this project. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Heartwarming Hugs Designer Series Paper:  Heartwarming Hugs Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, 153492Did you notice that I manipulated the paper a bit? I cut the striped paper into 1/2″ strips and glued them side-by-side, sliding them down a bit to create a different panel. Do you see it?! • Color Combination. I love the mix of Pear Pizzazz and Mossy Meadow included in the Heartwarming Hugs Designer Series Paper. I added a base of Pool Party on my card that ties in with the aura around my “joy” die cut. Together, I think they make a beautiful color combination that mixes soft and rich very well. If you like this mix of Pool Party, Pear Pizzazz and Mossy Meadow as much as I do, I hope you will save this for future reference:Stampin' Up! 10. The first thought that came to mind was ‘quilting’. Take a perfectly good pattern, cut it up, put it back together differently, and then repeat the process. I LOVE your idea and how it made the eye stop and enJOY the sentiment.

  11. WOW! You most certainly did play with that paper. The result is gorgeous! I didn’t notice no stamps or ink were used until I read the blog. It’s a fabulous card!

  12. Brian, I love what you did with the paper. Could you post a video or a step by step as to how you layered it? That would be wonderful for visual learners like me. Thank you.
