I see a lot of sympathy cards for pets (so sad that sympathy cards are ever needed), but I needed a “feel better” card for a friend whose dog has been sick and will soon be undergoing treatments. Because I don’t own any pet stamp sets (and because the dog punch doesn’t look like her dog), I reached for the Playful Pets Designer Series Paper to make my card. Here’s my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Playful Pets. When I shared inspiration for Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Paper sale last week, it occurred to me that I haven’t shared the Playful Pets Designer Series Paper as much as I should have. It’s a really adorable pack of papers – and perfect for any pet-lover. There are pages for cats and pages for dogs included in these papers. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Playful Pets Designer Series Paper:
Playful Pets is one of the Designer Series Papers that is being offered at a 15% discount during October. Be sure to check out all of these papers:
My card also showcases the So Sentimental stamp set, Celebration Labels Dies, Banners Pick a Punch and Stitched Shapes Dies. All of the products on this card are listed below.
- CASE’d layout. When we CASE (Copy and Share Everything or Copy and Selectively Edit), we find inspiration in a project – theme, color combinations, layout, products used – and create our own project by making changes to make it our own. When CASEing, it’s important to give credit to the original designer – it doesn’t take away from your project at all. As I was playing with my Simply Citrus All-Inclusive Card Kit this past weekend, I was really wow’d by some of the simple layouts on the beautiful cards. I designed today’s Playful Pets card around this card from the kit:
I shared the cards I made with this kit yesterday – you can CLICK HERE to see all of the projects. Here’s another look at how this layout was CASE’d on the front of my card:
- Classic Color Combination. While the Playful Pets Designer Series Paper features a variety of colors (Basic Black, Cinnamon Cider, Early Espresso, Flirty Flamingo, Real Red, Soft Suede and Whisper White), the two papers I’ve chosen feature Real Red, Basic Black and Whisper White. I really wanted to add a third color that would allow the red hearts and sentiment base to remain the focal point of the card, so I added a base and banner of Basic Gray. I love this combination! If you, too, love this mix of Real Red, Basic Gray and Basic Black, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:
Stamp Sets: So Sentimental Papers: Playful Pets Designer Series Paper, Basic Gray, Real Red Inks: Versamark Accessories: Celebration Labels Dies, Stitched Shapes Dies, Banners Pick a Punch, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Heat Tool, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you like this sweet-and-simple card. I know my friend with appreciate it.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian

Brian,
This is a great pet card … love the layers!
Happy Monday!
I love how you used this cute paper. It will definitely comfort your friend. Enjoy your day!
Such a sweet and personalized card for your friend and her pet! The two patterns are fabulous.
Brian – you are so sweet to have made a special card for your friend with a sick pet. This card couldn’t be more perfect and I think you should watch that Hallmark doesn’t copy it. LOL All kidding aside, I’m sure your friend will really appreciate this fabulous reminder that friends care.
I’m feeling the LOVE that you are sending with this card.
Brian, love this one. I’ve rescued and lost two beautiful dogs over the years and know the worry when they aren’t well. Your friend will love this card. The Basic Gray is gorgeous with the Real Red and Basic Black.
Perfect! I was just trying to come up with a pet card. Thank you.
Spot on! A great card ,for our pets brings us smiles and hugs. Thanks for your card designs.
Such a sweet card~feelin’ the love.
As an aside, flawless embossing of the sentiment. Always makes me smile to see such a perfect rendition of a greeting. 🙂
Such a sweet card, Brian. I guess I should buy that paper because it’s perfect for sending a card to someone who has a pet. Don’t even need the stamp set or punch; it’s perfect! Thanks for sharing. And I hope you friend’s pet heals quickly.
So hard to lose a pet but this sweet card is perfect to say you are thinking of someone!
Brian, as you probably know, I’m not a fan of double-sided DSP, I’m incapable of choosing what side to condemn to obscurity especially if both sides are gorgeous or cute.
This paper is one of my most favorite ever from Stampin’ Up! those doggies and kitties are just adorable, fun, and beautiful.
Now, having said that, this particular paper has one side with the doggies and kitties and on the other side there are just paw prints, or food bowls, and I wouldn’t feel to bad putting those under.
Anyway, it’s sad when we need sympathy cards for humans or pets so I’m glad this is just a “get well” card for your friend’s doggie.
I love your design, perfect colors and DSP to frame the perfectly embossed sentiment.
Thank you for sharing.
XO
Maria.
PS. I hope your friends doggie feels better soon.
Brian what a thoughtful “feel better” card for your friend whose dog has been sick and undergone many treatments. It looks great in the basic black, grey, red and white.
