Today’s card features elements from three new bundles from Stampin’ Up!’s January – June 2021 Mini Catalog. I’m excited about all three of these bundles, but I’m really excited about how they all worked together to make the soft, sweet card I’m sharing with you. Here’s my card for this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge:
And here’s the sketch that inspired my project:
I studied the sketch and stepped away to make my card, thinking my card was a perfect representation of the sketch. I must admit (because I like to keep it real) that my card isn’t as close to the sketch as I thought it was, but you can see the inspiration, right?
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Three Great Bundles. My card features elements from three new bundles – each one contributes something very special to this soft, sweet card. The panel of butterflies is stamped with the new Floating & Fluttering stamp set and cropped with the coordinating Fluttering Dies. Here’s a closer look at this incredible bundle:The sentiment on this card is a beautifully-scripted “thank you” that I pulled from the Sweet Strawberry stamp set – I adore the fun strawberries in this set, but I SO LOVE the sentiments. Here’s a closer look at the Sweet Strawberry Bundle:It’s a less obscure element on this card, but the banner label on is pulled from the Flowering Vine Dies in the Vine Design Bundle. The three big dies in this set are standouts, but this sentiment label is pretty great to have, too. Here’s a look at this bundle:
- Coloring the Floating & Fluttering Butterflies. The Floating & Fluttering stamp set gives us a collection of butterflies and leaves that can be stamped and colored with the stamps – always fun. I decided, though, that I wanted a really, really soft trio of butterflies so I stamped the images with Basic Gray ink and colored them with my Stampin’ Blends. Here’s a closer look: I stamped, colored and cropped two sets of the same image and centered them along the center of the card to mimic the “pointing two directions arrows” on the sketch. Because the cutouts are in two panels, I could have (and possibly should have) propped the panels up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Still, I just glued them to the soft Soft Sea Foam background.
- Trio of Soft Colors. My card features a large panel of Soft Sea Foam against and Basic Gray card base. It’s the trio of colors I used for the butterflies on my card, though, that makes me happiest. If you love this soft, sweet mix of Petal Pink, Purple Posy and Seaside Spray as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:
Bundles: Floating & Fluttering Stamp Sets: Floating & Fluttering, Sweet Strawberry Papers: Soft Sea Foam, Basic Gray, Thick Basic White Inks: Basic Gray, Stampin’ Blends (Petal Pink, Purple Posy, Seaside Spray, Soft Sea Foam) Accessories: Fluttering Dies, Flowering Vine Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian

Brian, I have found if I use Stampin’Up stamps (basic gray) to stamp and image, then try to color with alcohol markers they smear the edges. I usually have to use the black Memento stamp for the outline to prevent smearing. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi, Marylin – If you are using Thick Whisper White (or Thick Basic White), you shouldn’t be experiencing issues since our Classic inks dry immediately. I have to let Memento dry for an hour or more. Maybe there’s a difference based on humidity, sea level, etc.?
Yummy colors and coloring. Fresh and bright for spring!
Thanks, Mary! It’s nice to use soft pastels for a change.
Brian, I LOVE this card! The soft colors you chose for the butterflies and the mat of Soft Sea Foam plus the Basic White mat AND the Basic Gray card base … wow! You didn’t need dimensionals with those layers in my opinion. Marylin has brought up a good question regarding stamping in Basic Gray and using the Blends! Were you just very light-handed as you colored near the edges? Again, great card!
Thanks so much, Suzie! I find that our Classic inks dry quickly, so I’ve never had an issue – maybe Atlanta weather is different from Florida weather? I have to let Memento dry for a while, but the Classic inks dry immediately for me. The Blends work best on Thick cardstock. ♥
I love how you flip flopped those sweet images! Beautifully colored! What a sketch! I am so going to miss CTS!
Thanks so much, Linda! The more I played with these butterflies, the more I loved them.
Very spring..sweet card! I have not had this bundle on my list but somehow you will make me change my mind!
Thanks so much, Windy! I loved playing with the soft colors – a great pivot from the rich colors of Christmas.
Your color combination is GREAT my friend.
Thanks so much, Kadie! ♥
What a lovely card! I like the effect of stamping the butterflies in gray. Nicely done, my friend.
