If you stopped by yesterday morning to see what I was sharing, you might have missed my I Miss You card with the Wrapped Bouquet Bundle. Because of some [incorrect] edits I made to the configuration of my blog, the email for my post didn’t go out until late afternoon. Way to go, Brian! If you missed that post, you can see it here.
I rarely take the easy way out. Today’s project started as a super-simple, single layer card that I designed in my head. By the time I played with my products to pull this card together, it turned into FIVE four-layer cards with a die-cut on each. I love you that much! The collection of cards I’m sharing with you today showcase some wonderful, new products and all five of Stampin’ Up!’s 2019-2021 In Colors.
There are few things I love more than the annual reveal of a new set of Stampin’ Up! In Colors. When demonstrators get to see the new catalog next week, we also get a peek at the new colors that will replace the 2019-2021 In Colors. The joy of meeting the new ones is great, despite how much we’ll miss the retiring colors.
To showcase these five colors, I made a collection of Basic White Note Cards. Here’s a look at these cards:
Each of these cards features a small butterfly from the Brilliant Wings Dies and a brushstroke from the Brushed Blooms stamp set. To generate a lighter concentration of each color in the brushstroke, I stamped the brushstroke stamp off once, twice or three times on scrap paper before stamping on this panel. I framed each card with a diamond-designed piece of Designer Series Paper from the True Love Designer Series Paper and added a Matte Black Dot to the center of each butterfly. The sentiment is from one of my favorite stamp sets in Stampin’ Up!’s January-June 2021 Mini Catalog, Wonderful As You.
Here’s a look at each of the five cards in this collection of cards:
Pretty Peacock
Seaside Spray
Terracotta Tile
Purple Posy
You’ve likely read this on my blog and other sites that talk about design – there’s magic in threes. There’s something so balanced and beautiful about a collection of things in threes. Not only does my card feature three elements on the front of the card (a sentiment, a brushstroke and a butterfly), but there are also three elements that showcase the highlighted color (butterfly, brushstroke and frame around the focal panel). There are also three black elements on each card (the frame of True Love Designer Series Paper, the sentiment and the matte dot). The design is simple, but I think it works – maybe because of all the balance.
Don’t Miss Out on These In Colors!

Love the simple wash of color and coordinating butterfly. A beautiful bon voyage to the In Colors.
I really love the simplicity of your cards. Just one butterfly is perfect! Way too many cards are too busy with this set! And I’ll miss these in colors.. it took me awhile to love them..
Simplicity paired with beauty ! Great cards and look at the skinny frame of coordinating color !
Love these !
Awesomely done! Plus I love the DSP as the background panel to make the outgoing InColors pop!
These beautiful cards are a great way to showcase the retiring In Colors. I will miss them. I thought they were a great compliment to the standard colors we have now. Can’t wait to see what the new In Colors will be. Enjoy your day!
You showed these colors off well with this design!
I love these cards, Brian! I’m going to miss these colors especially Pretty Peacock & Seaside Spray.
The easy way is for sissies. You really know how to bring it my friend.
Brian, thank you for the detailed explanation of your design process. I learned a lot. I love these cards and will now think more methodically when designing a card so as to look for the balance and beauty of the elements.
Bravo my friend. A really neat way to showcase all the retiring in colors. And the “things in threes” is a great inspiration and gives us cool ideas for future designs. How sweet these 5 cards would be in a little box, wrapped with a bow. TFS
Well you just knocked my socks off this morning Brian. These cards are
absolutely fabulous! What a great way to start my day. Thus far the 2019-2020 In Colors have been my favorite of all time. Your cards today really show them in all their glory. Thanks.
Isn’t it great when an original idea takes off and we are thrilled with the finished project? Kudos to you for making that happen–this is a wonderful set of notes, each one is special on its own.
Tough to decide which had the greater impact—the meticulous design details explanation or the actual cards themselves. Great post all around! ❤️
Beautiful cards, great balance and you followed the design rule of thirds to a three…. oh, I meant tee!! Great post, Brian.
