Have you ever been stuck? You have picked out the products you want to use on a card, and you know what kind of card you want to make. Then…you’re stuck. Now what? A simple sketch can offer great inspiration to take that idea from a concept in your head to a finished card in your hand. That’s what happened to me this week – I needed a “thinking of you” card and wanted to play with a palette of blues. Everything sat there until I pulled up the FabFriday challenge that kicks off today, and it all came together. Yay! Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Sending Positive Thoughts with Wonderful As You. My card features two products from Stampin’ Up!’s January – June 2021 Mini Catalog that I love so very much. How incredible is this bold sentiment from the Wonderful As You stamp set?! It gets right to the point, don’t you think? It’s perfect for a “sorry things are terrible” or “thinking about you” card. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with this stamp set and have almost featured every one of the sentiments. Here’s a closer look at the Wonderful As You stamp set:
The stamp set is pretty great, huh? Speaking of great, the panel of blue flowers from Well Suited Designer Series Paper is incredible! This panel gave me the color inspiration I used on this blue card. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Well Suited Designer Series paper:
- Layering the Sentiment. The sentiment at the center of this card takes a starring role on this card, but all of the elements around it really help it to shine. The Pacific Point band that hovers over the sentiment measures 3-1/4″ x 2-1/2″. I punched a 2″ circle into the middle of the panel with my Retiring 2″ Circle punch. I layered the backside of the circle with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals and placed it over the 2-1/4″ square of Basic White and layered that over the 3-5/8″ x 2-1/4″ band of Night of Navy below it. I might have just popped up the sentiment on a band if it weren’t for the inspiration from this sketch.

- Beautiful Blues. I wouldn’t normally think to combine navy blue with bright blue for a color combination. These beautiful blues work wonderfully together, though, so I have no complaints here. Seems, too, the blues are perfect for a “cheer up” card. Shake those blues – here’s a card filled with positive thoughts. If you like this mix of Basic White, Pacific Point and Night of Navy as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:

Great take on the sketch, Brian. The color combination is very pretty and the DSP is a perfect way to soften the solid colors. Very sweet card.
Love the window to a sweet sentiment and the luscious blend of blues!
