Gifts don’t have to be big to be amazing – but tiny gifts require tiny tags (nobody wants a big ‘ole honker of a tag attached to their petite gift box). That’s why it’s important to know how to make a delicate, tiny tag for your small Christmas gifts. I’m here to save the day!
Today I’m sharing 4 steps to make a simple, fun tag that also happens to be tiny. Here’s a look at the finished tag:
I mean, really. How adorable is that ?! I’m going to walk you through the 4 easy steps to make this little tag.
STEP ONE: Cut and score cardstock. This piece is 4-1/4″ (scored at 2-1/8″) x 4-1/2″ so I could crop two tags from the piece of Evening Evergreen cardstock. Had I cut the pieces much smaller, it would have been harder to slide the paper into my punch.
STEP TWO: Fold the cardstock in half at the score line. You can use your bone folder to get a crisper fold.
STEP THREE: Slide the folded cardstock into the Essential Tag Punch. Leave just a little bit of room above the fold at the top of the punch (a snidge will do!). Note: you may want to place the punch on a non-slippery surface (like a Silicone Craft Sheet) because you’re going to have to press hard to get both layers punched out).
By leaving the snidge of space at the top of the punch, the punch doesn’t cut off the top of the tag and gives you a folded tag. Yay!
STEP FOUR: Decorate your little tags. I punched a hole in each and added Basic White Twine. I decorated the fronts of the tags with designs from the Tidings of Christmas 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper, small poinsettias from the Poinsettia Dies and a trio of Metallic Pearls. Here’s a look:
The Tidings of Christmas 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper was cut at 1-1/4″ on each of these and the cardstock from below was cut at 1-3/8″. I added a sprig from the Christmas Pinecone Dies behind my Real Red poinsettia. Inside each tag, I added a 1-1/4″ square of Sahara Sand for my sentiment.
Here are the products I used for these tags:
Papers: Tidings of Christmas 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper, Evening Evergreen, Real Red, Basic White, Sahara Sand (inside) Accessories: Essential Tag Punch, Poinsettia Dies, Christmas Pinecone Dies, Metallic Pearls, Baker’s Twine Essentials Pack, Stampin’ Dimensionals
Don’t make the mistake of adding a mismatched tag to your Christmas gifts – make sure you have a variety of sizes on-hand. I hope these tiny tags will come in handy. ♥
Thanks for stopping by today!

Oh COME ON! You are killing me! These are like little jewels. (And with layers, too!) 💕💕 Proof of why we call you a rock star.
Awww…you’re too kind, Linda! I had fun with these and am so happy to share. ♥
Good morning. Brian!
I agree with Linda! These are SO, SO, SO precious! 🎄🎁🎄
Yay! I was going for precious. 🙂 Thanks so much, Suzie! ♥
I like to recycle so I think these would work using some of the stickers I receive at Christmas. Thanks for giving me an idea. I think these are so cute.
Thanks so much, Karen! I’m so happy you like them and my project has inspired you. ♥
Clever and adorable Brian!
Thanks, Judy! What did you think of my project? 🙂
I love how you made it into a fold over tag with the punch adjustment. I hadn’t seen that before. I have adjusted punches in different ways but hadn’t seen the fold over idea. Very clever. I like using tools and papers in different ways and appreciate you looking for new ways to use materials.
If anyone could rock a tiny tag, it would be you! Adorable!
Thanks so much, my friend! ♥
AWWWWWW ! CUTE ! I LOVE CUTE ! This is the cutest tag in town !!
Now I have to make some so thanks for your directions !
How did I miss that punch ?
This punch has been around for a while, but I’ve not really used on here. With these tags, though, I’ve changed my mind about how useful this punch is. ♥
Wry cute.
Thank you so much, Shila! ♥
Great gifts come in small packages, as the saying goes, and these tags would fit perfectly. So much fun to use for more than Christmas considering how many of our stamp set have tiny images. Great idea! Way to go Brien!
Thank you so much, Grace! I had fun with these tiny tags and can see them being used for other occasions, too! Glad you like them. ♥
Yep, it’s adorable. Love the wee details!
Thanks, Mary! Small can be so cute. ♥
Tag man, YOU ROCK!!!!! super cool!!!
Thanks, Bette! ♥
Absolutely adorable. What a nice way to finish a package. Thanks again for your valuable and always creative ideas
I’m so happy to share, Roxanne! Thank you so much! ♥
Oh Brian, if you only knew how many times I said “nope the tag will be too big”. Thanks so much, this size is perfect and super cute!
You only have one chance to get the tag right, Katrina! 🙂 Thanks!
So cute. Love these and plan on CASEing these. Question, is a snidge similar to a “smidge” on using the punch? Wasn’t sure if this was a southern term or what.
Hmmm…I guess it is SMIDGE, but I’ve always, always, always said SNIDGE. Perhaps I should just blame this on being Southern. 🙂
Anyway you spell or say it, it all makes a cute tag!
These tags are so fun! I just think they are so sweet and am thinking about purchasing this punch. Somehow it escaped my radar. Thanks for the inspiration!
SO happy to share, Sharon! These were fun to make, and the punch can be used for so many occasions. ♥
You definitely have saved the day — & just in time for all the present wrapping in the next few weeks! 🎁. Thanks for the step by step instructions — can’t wait to create a few tiny tags! 😊
So happy you like the tags, Paulette! ♥ They were fun to make – and didn’t use a lot of my supplies. 🙂
These are like….cute as a bug in a rug! I adore them!
This will absolutely enhance any package, I think it would look good even on a large package. It’s so Beautiful Brian.
OMG! You are a genius!
Well I was trying to figure out what type of tags to make this year…you just solved my dilemma…these are adorable and elegant all in one! Thank you for sharing your talent with us all. Have a very happy holiday!
