Light the Candles: A New Card Kit with My Alternative Minis

January is a great time to build a stash of birthday cards so you have them on-hand when you need them during the year. Stampin’ Up! has released a new Project Kit, Light the Candles, that will help you to build that collection with some great cards that are super-fun and super-easy to make.

About the Kit

I made the cards in the kit – and I’m going to share those with you today – but I also made some 3″ x 3″ cards with elements from the kit. Before I share those, here’s a look at the finished projects in this adorable kit, which makes 8 cards (four each of two designs):

The colors in the kit really set the tone for these happy, celebratory projects. What fun! I love the mix of Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody, Coastal Cabana, Magenta Madness and Night of Navy. Here’s a graphic of these colors used in the kit:

My Projects with the Kit

I made two of the cards as showcased in the kit (with one small exception). While the kit is designed to have a cake cutout and a candles cutout pop up over the glimmery colors below, I glued my two panels together so they weren’t popped up. I then popped that panel up on my card base. Here’s a look at my finished cards:

I also used some elements from the kit to make two 3″ x 3″ cards. I cropped the candles from a panel of cutouts in the kit and cropped the glimmer piece below each. The background panels are pulled from one of the card bases and one of the envelope liners. The Night of Navy strip and sentiment circle are pulled from the kit, and the sparkly lights on the candles are cropped from the Dandy Wishes Dies. Here are my cards:

I hope you’ll take a look at this adorable (and affordable) kit. Such happiness in this little box!
