I’m often amazing by the colors and patterns in select Designer Series Papers and can’t wait to use them. Every once in a while, though, a page of Designer Series Paper baffles me – I love it, but I’m not sure how to showcase it. The adorable rows of Christmas trees in the Storybook Gnomes Designer Series Paper is one of those pages – I love the little designs and sweet textures in the trees, but I was puzzled by how to showcase the pattern. After playing around a bit, I found that staggered 3/4″ strips gave me a pattern I love. Here’s my card:
How fun are these trees? While many pages in the Storybook Gnomes Designer Series Papers showcase gnomes and their mushroom homes, many pages feature outdoor scenes and snowflakes. If you love gnomes, this paper is for you! If you aren’t crazy about gnomes, this paper might also be perfect for you. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this fun pack of papers (the page of Bermuda Bay trees is showcased fourth on the top row of the image below):
The strips of paper are staggered (and reorganized) on the page for a new, fun pattern. Each strip measures 3/4″ x 5″ – together they are about 3-1/4″ wide for a sweet panel of tree patterns.
The sentiment (and only stamped image) on my card is pulled from the Sweet Candy Canes stamp set – “Wishing you lots of love, joy & happiness this Christmas season and always.” I love that! When I showcased the candy canes on other projects, I didn’t pay close attention to the sentiments in this set. It’s perfect here! Here’s a look at the Sweet Candy Canes Bundle, which features the Sweet Candy Canes cling stamp set and Candy Canes Dies: I cropped the sentiment with the Stitched Rectangles Dies. I snipped a little tree from the page of Christmas trees and added it to the panel to pop up above the rectangle. So the tree wouldn’t blend in with the background, I added a Stylish Shapes circle behind the sentiment. It’s functional, but it also adds a stylish element to the layout of this card. Here’s a closer look:

Love your design…. it really makes the card staggering your strips. Who’d have thunk it? YOU DID!
I adore the forest of modern little trees! The sentiment looks so crisp heat embossed!
A great lay out for those trees !! I love this DSP and have big plans to use it for some cute Pinwheel cards . You did a completely different slant on this theme and it is modern and I may have to CASE it !!
A very cool background and card!
Yup, the idea of staggering the DSP strips is a brilliant way to perfectly showcase those trees, but I’m really taken with how meticulous the staggering IS so that the trunks of the trees add almost another element to the design. I wish I could think and create like you do. I just love this card!
LOVE the ‘un-traditional ‘ color of this card!
Wow wow wow. Simple, modern and dare I say edgy. Love it, B!
What else can I say, this card with the tree placement is TREEMENDOUS!!!!!
Clever design placement. I like it a lot.
Love your creativity with the DSP. I have learned from you that the opposite side of DSPs can be very useful and you have proven it here. I love how you created this pretty card. Love the sentiment, too. Enjoy your evening.
Oohhh!! What a wonderful idea! I love how perfect this is! Your engineer/mathematical design is so cool!
