An Autumn Leaves Napkin Ring for Thanksgiving

Emma and I hosted our Bonus Zoom call for the last Super-Awesome Fun Time Card Kit yesterday. I always love to learn what techniques or designs people liked the most from each kits, and I love see what they’ve made. Today I’m sharing an “alternative project” I shared on the call (that wasn’t part of the kit) with elements that were provided in the kit. Here’s a look at the Thanksgiving-ready napkin ring I design with a fun, easy technique:

Autumn Leaves Napkin Ring, Stampin Up!, Brian KingThe leaf and sentiment on this napkin ring are from the Autumn Leaves Bundle, a gorgeous bundle in Stampin’ Up!’s September-December 2023 Mini Catalog. Here’s a look at this incredible bundle:

Autumn Leaves Bundle, Stampin Up!, 162186Since the All About Autumn 6″ x 6″ Specialty Designer Series Paper and Oxidized Copper Specialty Designer Series Paper were unavailable while we were preparing the kits (they are available now, though!), Emma and I had to find a replacement that would work well with this bundle. We reached into the Online Exclusives for a pack of Specialty Papers that gave us exactly what we wanted – the Dry Brushed Metallic Specialty Designer Series Paper:

Dry Brushed Metallic Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up! 160837How gorgeous is this paper?! First available in the Spring 2023 Mini Catalog, the pages feature gold, rose, Calypso Coral, Petal Pink, Cajun Craze and Soft Succulent (a retired In Color) tones. Here’s what we loved about the Soft Succulent piece – it plays so well with Lost Lagoon and Pretty Peacock, which weren’t available when this paper was originally offered.

I created a napkin ring with a 1-1/2″ x 6″ strip of Calypso Coral and a 1-3/8″ x 6″ strip of the Dry Brushed Metallic Specialty Paper. I burnished the strips with a bone folder (to loosen the fibers and let it roll into a circle) and secured them at the back with Tear & Tape. I tied a band of Calypso Coral 3/16″ Braided Linen Trim around the band and tied it with a bow. The sentiment on the napkin ring is stamped with the Autumn Leaves stamp set (I masked “I’m” with tape and cropped it with the Double Oval Punch.

Here’s a closer look at the leaf on my project:

Autumn Leaves Napkin Ring, Stampin Up!, Brian KingI stamped the leaf from Autumn Leaves with Early Espresso ink on Calypso Coral cardstock and then crumbled it up for a little rustic texture. I spritzed the back of the leaf with water to help create and maintain the crumpled look (but don’t spritz the front, or the ink will bleed into a splotchy mess – don’t ask me how I know). I attached my Calypso Coral leave with Mini Glue Dots.

Here’s a look at the fully napkin and napkin ring:
