Cheers to You and the New Year

Another Christmas behind us. Despite the extra week we had in November after Thanksgiving, this Christmas really came fast. So many things got past me this year (for which I had great intentions). I bought thoughtful Christmas gifts for all my family, but I didn’t get one Christmas card mailed out. It’s the “cobbler’s son has no shoes” story, I guess. It doesn’t mean I’ve been sitting on my hands, though. 🙂

It’s time to turn the page on Christmas a bit as we prepare for New Year’s Day and Valentine’s Day. I’ve made a colorful, celebratory New Year’s Day card with two of my favorite stamp sets – here’s my card:

Rays of Light, Throughout the Year, Stampin Up!, Brian King, New Years cardI’ve loved the Rays of Light background stamp set from the moment Stampin’ Up! first introduced it. I’ve used to to build a tone-on-tone backdrop, a sunny backdrop and a patriotic backdrop. This is the first I thought to build a rainbow of colors with it – and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Here’s a look at the Rays of Light stamp set:

Rays of Light, Stampin Up! 158925I painted each beam on the red rubber stamp with the brush tip of my Stampin’ Write Markers, alternating between each color as I went. After all the beams were painted, I huffed on the stamp to re-moisten the ink. So easy!

I built my rainbow with a mix of colors from all of the color families (except the Neutrals). Here are the colors (and associated color families) I used to build my rainbow:

  • Poppy Parade (Brights)
  • Pumpkin Pie (Brights)
  • Lemon Lolly (Subtles)
  • Shaded Spruce (Regals)
  • Boho Blue (2023-2025 In Colors)
  • Gorgeous Grape (Regals)
  • Highland Heather (Subtles)

There are a few hiccups in there, but I trust you won’t seek them out and tell me about them. ♥ I love the distressed texture in the beams – here’s a close up of the stamped image:

Rays of Light, Throughout the Year, Stampin Up!, Brian King, New Years cardThe sentiment is pulled from another favorite of mine – a sentiment set called Throughout the Year. I stamped the sentiment with Poppy Parade ink on Thick Basic White and cropped it with the Modern Oval Punch – you guessed it – another favorite of mine. Here’s a look at the Throughout the Year stamp set (which you need):
