Today is a very, very special day that should already be on your calendar – it’s Mom’s birthday! ♥ While I won’t get to see her today, we celebrated her special day while we visited her last week. She’ll be back later this month, and I’m pretty sure we’ll celebrate again. Mom loves blue flowers, so the birthday cards I make for her usually feature blue florals. She also loves watermelon, so this year’s card has taken a sharp turn from the normal. Here’s the card I made for Mom’s birthday:
When I first saw this watermelon pattern (one side is the fleshy, seed-filled inside, and one side is the watermelon rind), I thought it was the one page I wouldn’t use. I don’t like watermelon – the taste, the texture, the messiness. Mom, on the other hand, could live on watermelon alone. Turns out the patterns on this fun page were perfect for Mom’s birthday card.
The background and duo of watermelon slices are from the Fruit Salad 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper, one of the free items you can choose with a $60 order during this year’s Sale-a-Bration event. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this fun pack of papers:
Here’s look at the page I used to make Mom’s card – one side is the juicy inside, and one side is the outer rind. Such a fun pattern (even if watermelon is gross):
I used paper snips to cut two slices of watermelon from the first page of the Fruit Salad 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper to add to the front of Mom’s card. Since the slices are intermixed with other fruit pieces, the corner of the first piece is cut off, so I had to cleverly layer the pieces to hid the missing corner. 🙂
I layered the 2-3/8″ circle with a Basic Black circle form the Spotlight on Nature Dies. I heat-embossed “Happy Birthday” from the Simply Said stamp set on Basic Black cardstock and snipped it out to add to the front of the card. So easy – and such a great accent!
I had a little bit of paper left with the rind of the watermelon pattern, so I added to it to the back of Mom’s envelope – love how that gives a preview of what’s inside. Here’s a look:
Stamps: Simply Said Papers: Fruit Salad 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper, Real Red, Basic Black, Basic White Inks: Versamark Accessories: 2-3/8″ Circle Punch, Spotlight on Nature Dies, White Wow! Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Medium Envelope, Stampin’ Dimensionals
Thanks for stopping by today!
