Special birthdays call for special birthday cards. When my friend Liz told me her mom was turning 100 this week, I immediately sat down to create something worthy of such a milestone. Here’s the card I designed to celebrate Ms. Goldie’s special birthday:
I tried so many ways to add “100” to the card (trust me—there were numbers cut out all over my desk), but in the end I decided the card was more special without them. After all, Ms. Goldie already knows her age—but she may not have known how much she’d love pink flowers against a gray backdrop.
Her birthday card features a fancy fold, over-the-top layering, a must-try technique, and a classy mix of colors. Here’s a closer look at the floral arrangement at the heart of her card:
The flowers are stamped with the Charming Day stamp set and colored with a blend of Flirty Flamingo, Pretty in Pink, and Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends. I cropped the flowers with the Charming Day Dies and tucked TWO detailed die-cuts behind them (one in Gray Granite and one in Basic Gray). I couldn’t love that layered detail more.
Here’s a peek at the Charming Day Bundle—I’m so glad I had it on hand to build this floral arrangement:
Side note: Emma and I hosted the bonus Zoom call for our Charming Day Super-Awesome Fun Time Card Kit last weekend. While the kits are sold out, you can still purchase the online tutorial, which includes a full written guide (with photos) and a video from Emma and me to walk you through the projects. Back to Ms. Goldie’s card… I mounted the flowers and a wood-grain panel onto a Basic Gray card base in a classic Z-fold (4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2” and 1-3/4”). I can already picture how beautifully this card will sit on her mantel or living room table:
And yes—I avoided putting “100” on the inside, too! Instead, I used the “time to celebrate” sentiment from the Beautiful Butterflies stamp set. It’s a perfect, timeless message for this once-in-a-lifetime celebration. Here’s a closer look:
Bundles: Charming Day Bundle Stamps: Charming Day, Simply Said, Beautiful Butterflies Papers: Neutrals 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (Basic Gray), Basic Gray, Basic White, Gray Granite, Cardstock Backing Inks: Basic Gray, Gray Granite, Smoky Slate, Memento Tuxedo Black, Versamark, Stampin’ Blends (Flirty Flamingo, Pretty in Pink, Granny Apple Green) Accessories: White Wow! Embossing Powder, Stylish Shapes, Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Stampin’ Dimensionals
