A Valentine’s Day Card That Floats – and Wows!

Valentine’s Day is almost here – and today I’m sharing a quick-and-easy card that’s sure to wow! your special Valentine. This design combines two new products with a fancy fold that’s simple to execute and works like magic. I’ll walk you step-by-step through the layout so you can give this one a try – and trust me, you absolutely can.

Here’s the Valentine’s Day card I made to share with you today.

After one quick glance at this card, I want to jump right into the key products that make it shine.

The hearts and sentiment come from the Endless Love Bundle, new in Stampin’ Up!’s 2026 Spring Mini Catalog. This bundle is packed with classic Valentine imagery and sentiments that work beautifully for cards, tags, and beyond.

The gorgeous panels offer a fresh, unexpected color palette for Valentine’s Day that still feels romantic and special. The Painted Illusions Designer Series Paper – February’s Product of the Month – is filled with incredible patterns and colors. With a qualifying $75 order, it can be selected for just $5 this month, making it an easy add-on.

Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Painted Illusions Designer Series Paper (the pack includes 3 of each of the 4 double-sided designs):

While the first look shows the card “in action,” here’s how it lays completely flat – exactly how it would arrive in the envelope:

This design brings together two techniques I love using:

  1. A 1/4 sheet card base, keeping the card slim and elegant.
  2. A hidden flap fold that creates the illusion that the focal element is floating along the edge of the card. I’ve shared several projects using this fold before, but in those designs it was always part of the card base. This version gives the fold a little spotlight of its own.

Measurements & Instructions

Here’s a quick rundown of the layer measurements, starting with the card base and working upward:

  • Flirty Flamingo Cardstock – 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″
  • Thick Basic White Cardstock – 8-7/8″ x 4″ (scored at 1″ and 3-5/8″)
  • Painted Illusions Designer Series Paper – 5″ x 3-7/8″ (cut in half at 2-1/2″ for a continuous pattern on the card)

Trim approximately 1-1/4″ from both the top and bottom along the left score line of the Thick Basic White panel. This creates the flap where the “floating” element will attach. You can adjust these trimmed areas depending on the size of your focal image.

I created a simple graphic to show how the Thick Basic White panel is positioned on the card:

Last Thoughts

If fancy folds usually intimidate you, this is a perfect place to start. The structure does all the heavy lifting, and once you’ve made one, you’ll be itching to try it again with different sentiments and themes. Don’t be afraid to experiment – this fold is incredibly forgiving and endlessly adaptable.
