Dracula Has Never Looked So Adorable

e always preferred the cute side of Halloween – the childlike creativity, playful costumes and fun takes on the classic spooky characters. Give me smiling jack-o’-lanterns and friendly monsters over truly scary any day!

Starting tomorrow, you’ll be able to get your hands on the Spooktacular 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper as part of Stampin’ Up!’s July Online Exclusives release. This paper pack is filled with oversized images of Dracula, Frankenstein, a skeleton and a jack-o’-lantern, along with bold striped patterns that are perfect for Halloween projects.

Here’s a card I created featuring one of my favorite characters from the collection:

Spooktacular Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI could practically hear everyone gasp when they saw how adorable this Dracula is – and I wasn’t even listening for it! Here’s a look at the other playful characters and the coordinating striped patterns included in the Spooktacular 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper:

To highlight Dracula, I cropped him with the largest circle from the Spotlight on Nature Dies. The size was absolutely perfect, capturing the wrinkle in his chin and even a peek at his signature widow’s peak. Those little details make him even more charming!

Here’s a closer look:

To the left of my little vampire, I added a black die-cut using one of the Nested Essentials Dies. I’ve always thought this die looked just like a coffin, so I finally had the perfect excuse to use it that way!

I finished the card with a “spooky” sentiment from another bundle that I’m excited to start creating with – and it’s also available beginning tomorrow. Be sure to take a close look at the dies in this bundle. They’re so much fun!

One More Thing…

While photographing this card, I suddenly realized something I hadn’t noticed while making it. The black “coffin” over Dracula’s right shoulder actually looks like the popped-up collar of his cape! I wish I had spotted that sooner because I would have added a matching collar on the other side.

Then again…maybe that’s just part of the creative process. Sometimes you don’t discover the happy surprises until the project is finished.

Either way, I think we can all agree – he’s absolutely adorable!

Last Thoughts

Halloween projects don’t have to be spooky to be fun. Sometimes the cutest characters make the biggest impression, and this delightful Dracula completely stole the show for me. If you’re looking forward to creating playful Halloween cards this season, be sure to check out the July Online Exclusives beginning tomorrow. I have a feeling this paper pack is going to disappear quickly!
