MOJO Monday 248 – Celebrate with Cake!

I’m on vacation this week, so I completed a MOJO Monday layout challenge first thing this morning. Here’s the sketch that was designed by Carol Burrage:

I flipped this sketch sideways and came up with this:

I have been playing around with Flock Together, a bird-themed stamp set from the new catalog. I think the bird cage from this set makes a wonderful cake dome, so I stamped it on a piece of vellum cardstock and cut it out to fit nicely over the cake and cake pedestal from Make a Cake.

Helpful tips:

  • Use your tools. I used my paper piercing tool to add a little texture to the scallop edge and again to adhere the brad at the top of the cake dome.
  • Use large patterns as a backdrop for small prints and small patterns and a backdrop for large prints. The small argyle patterns of Patio Party Designer Series Paper make a nice backdrop for the large print cake.
  • Think outside the box. I used a birthday set (Create a Cake), a bird set (Flock Together) and a baby set (Little Additions) to make this birthday-themed card.

Stamp sets: Make a Cake, Flock Together, Little Additions Paper: Not Quite Navy, Primrose Petals, Whisper White, White Vellum Cardstock, Patio Party Designer Series Paper Inks: Basic Black, Primrose Petals, Not Quite Navy Accessories: Whisper White 1/4″ Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon, 3/16″ Metallic Brads, Paper-piercing Tool, Essentials Paper-Piercing Pack, Stampin’ Pierce Mat, Stampin’ Dimensionals,Jewelry Tag Punch, Scallop Border Punch
