Since the day my Window Frames Collection Framelits arrived at my doorstep (isn’t that box on your doorstep enough to turn a frown upside down?), I have had “Use Window Frames shapes as the base of a card” on my running to-do list. BUT…when I saw Sandie Conner’s owl treat bag, I knew I’d be completing my to-do list soon. Her project is far more creative and far more detailed than mine, but I’m quite happy with this fat, little owl:
And the inside is quick and easy, too:
I used the largest framelit for the outside of the card and trimmed off the bottom to create my owl. I used the second-to-the-largest framelit for the inside piece of paper, also trimming off the bottom.
Tips, Tricks and Reminders:
- Make a Framelit Card Base. It’s easy to use framelits and punches to make the base of a card. Here’s how to make a card with a framelit:
1. Score a piece of card stock, and fold it in half.
2. Line up the framelit such that the shape hangs off the top of the score line:
3. Run the shape through the Big Shot:
4. Take a break. Go to www.stampwithbrian.com/stampinup.net, and buy a whole bunch of stuff. You deserve it!
- Use your punches. I went straight for my Full Heart punch to make the beak on this bird. Unfortunately, though, I only ordered that punch last week, and it’s scheduled to arrive later this week. My Ornament Punch has a pointy tip, so I thought, “Hey, my Ornament Punch has a pointy tip!” so I decided to use that for the beak.

Thought I would hop in really quick to say CUTE first this morning ! Don`t you just love these framelets . I use them so much .You know I make cards for myself …I really do and put them on easels. And I love your punch art !!!! I`m going to make some of these this afternoon in between watching the weather channel and the Panther`s game ….I will check in later to read all the wonderful comments about you …later
I’m so happy you credited Sandie Conner for this adorable Owl idea! It drives me nuts when someone cases a creation that someone put some thought and energy into without crediting the original artist. So now that That’s over with, Sonny, I rarely sleep in, Welcome to First Place Sweetie! And Brian! Your Owl card is a Hoot! Stay safe from Hurricane Sandy my friends! Hugs!
Quick, easy and CUTE!!
Oh, what a cute card. I love punch art but I’m not to good at it unless I have a sample to follow. This owl is a great sample so, thank you Brian, I will be giving it a try this afternoon but, I will be watching my Cowboys game. Ughhh!! I’ve suffered so much with this guys.
If it’s card making and the NFL, I would make one while watching the Patriots play in London!! This owl is so stinking cute! But alas, I never got the framelits. They were on my “should I or shouldn’t I” list.
I agree with you Patti, drives me nuts when proper credit is not given. Sometimes I can’t remember my source, but I credit him/her anyway!!
I enjoy your site! Your cards are so creative, especially this one. Using the the Framelit for the base and the point of the Ornament punch for the beak, gives this owl a classy look. Thank you for a great card. Beverly
Love it, and the details you shared and you impressed us all by giving credit to the source. The owl is totallllllly adorable.
Oh, tooo cute and very fast…IF I had the framelits….thanks anyway…. Love fast and easy cards!
