Is it ridiculous that I am still buzzing from my weekend? I’ll get over it soon – I promise. Then we can move on to new projects and new topics. But not yet.
When I was planning to deliver the 300 handmade Christmas cards to Nancy, my new customer and friend, I knew I needed to make a Thank You card for her and wanted to make it very special. I looked over the scraps I had left from Nancy’s project, and I decided to use them. Here’s the card I made:
I decided to just use the Cherry Cobbler and Very Vanilla pieces to make sure the card doesn’t have a Christmas feel to it. I was really proud to hand this card to Nancy, and she was overflowing with kind remarks about it. While I was at it, I made a birthday card for my Aunt Claudette. This card is perfect for her as she is an avid quilter. I won’t tell you how old she is, though.
These cards are made with a herringbone technique. If you would like to recreate this look, you can follow my Herringbone Tutorial here. If you look closely (although it will likely make you dizzy), you will see that I alternated between thick and thin strips to add some interest to these projects.
This is completely gratuitous, but I couldn’t resist showing these two cards side by side:
Stamp sets: Curly Cute, Memorable Moments Inks: Cherry Cobbler Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, Festival of Prints Designer Series Paper Stack, Be of Good Cheer DSP, Parker’s Patterns DSP Accessories: Labels Collection Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals
Thanks for stopping by today! I enjoyed it.
Brian
Cool. Since I am up at 0 dark thirty. I get to be the FIRST to leave a comment. RED! It is my favorite color. Love the herringbone technique. As always beautiful job Brian.
The blog is set to auto-post at 5am. I’m always wide awake when I get the little *ding* that it’s been posted – but then I get to see all your comments when they come in. Congrats on being first, Shannon!
You are so talented!!!
Thank you. Stampin’ Up! does most of the work with their designs and color selections.
Beautiful cards, Brian. This technique is a great way to use all of those pieces of paper left over from making a lot of cards. Your aunt (we wont mention how old she is) will love her card. Thank you for mentioning your tutorial on the herringbone technique and giving us the link to find it. Do you still have the tutorial of the tea bag card?
Have a great day!!!!!
Maria, Here’s a link to the tea bag card: https://stampwithbrian.com/2012/08/19/having-tea-with-mary-fish/
You should definitely try this. It’s more beautiful in person.
Oh, thank you so much, Brian. I will give this a try today, I hope it comes out just as beautiful as yours.
XO
Maria.
Love it…..do you sleep? Have a great day……
Sleep? What’s that? 🙂
I LOVE THESE CARDS !!!!!!! You just gave me an idea for a project I am getting ready to start today . The beauty of this design is the variations you can do ,but using the same color brings it to a whole new WOW ! (psst Brian, you could sell these) and let`s not forget to wish Brian`s aunt Claudette a happy birthday !! You know with a sprig of holly or some pine needles stamped on the edge of the sentiment you could make these Christmassy …oh the wonder of it all… Oh I feel like singing a chorus of an old song “I`m So Excited” …I`ll stop in later..
….”and I just can’t hide it…” Happy birthday, Aunt Claudette…no one has a CLUE how old you are! –Terri
Hi Sonny, I got one of your gorgeous cards in Brian’s swap. The one with the Gold Christmas tree… absolutely stunning! Thanks! 🙂 Merry Christmas!
Sometimes, in the throes of life, we forget about all the techniques. I’m so glad you brought this one up, Brian! I’ve always loved it, but never have made one and I know it’s easy. I know what to do with my scraps now, though~teehee!
Gee, I love waking up to you with a cuppa in my hand! ;D Have a wonderful day, my friend!
Brian, I went back to look for Mary’s post with this card on it and found it. It was August 19th. 2012, my husband’s birthday, when I first heard about you. It’s only been 3 1/2 months since I “met” you here on your blog but I feel like I’ve known you forever. That’s how comfortable you made me feel since the very first time. You are indeed a wonderful host and I’m so happy to be able to participate and learn new things with the rest of your fans.
Thank you.
HERE HERE!! I FEEL THE SAAAAME WAY MARIA! LET’S HEAR IT FOR BRIAN! HIP HIP HOORAY! HIP HIP HOORAY! LOVE these cards too! HUGS!
Yes, yes!!!!! lets hear it for our wonderful host, one of a kind stamper and sweet as pie accountant. For he’s a jolly good fellow, for he’s a jolly good fellow, for he’s a jolly good fellooooow, which nobody can deny.
Brain, I love what you did with your scraps! And “dizzy” is walking into a Vera Bradley outlet store! 😉 Your aunt is going to treasure that birthday card for sure. Being on Central Time, I’d have to be up at 4 AM to be the first to comment — yikes! I am going back to your link (thanks for putting it at our fingertips) to the herringbone design, Brian. These two cards are really elegant!!!
Beautiful! This is a very impressive card that looks like it took tons of “time” to create!
Another great card! Thanks for sharing your talent !
Oh, your cards are beautiful! I love the cherry cobbled and very vanilla color scheme.
I was very excited to arrive home last night and see the envelope with my swap card on the counter. And it was all the way from Hawaii, how exciting is that? It was a lovely card and thanks again Brian for coordinating the swap.
Oops! “Cobbler”, not “cobbled”.
Very nice! SU should hire you to show what really can be done with their products! Your samples are always over the top! Happy Birthday to your Aunt Claudette! If you have a contest so we can guess how old she is, tell me first! 🙂
Brian, as always, wonderful cards with your awesome humor attached! I’m glad you have these links for the herringbone technique and I can’t wait to get home tonight so I can peek at the tea bag card? sounds warm and inviting! 🙂 Oh! I also got all my swaps last night in the mail. HOW EXCITING!!! I got a card from Maria, and Sonny and I can’t remember who else. I love this swap thing! I didn’t know we should put hand written notes with them, but it was so great to get those! It’s like I have new pen pals now! Awesome! For those of you who invited me to swap with you, I will be in touch. Brian, thank you so much for the chance to see such gorgeous work and to find new friends! YOU ROCK !!! 🙂
Hey Bobby, which card did you get from me?? I’m curious to find out. Hope you liked it. Ain’t this so much fun?? This is a great place to find new friends who love stamping. Brian is a great host.
Hey Maria, I got the ADORABLE House Mouse kids in the snow, snuggling up together. Its on a blue layer that has been embossed with a gorgeous design. Love it! Thanks, and yes it is fun for sure! And Brian, IS a super host! Glad I joined in! Can’t wait until the next swap! Merry Christmas!
Brian, more gorgeous cards! How do you do it day after day? Your brain must be buzzing with projects all day. How do you get anything else done? I don’t have a regular job to go to like you do, so, how do you do it all? I have several projects going at once but can’t fathom accomplishing them all like you do. You are Amazing! I love reading your post daily, and I love you. Yes, I love you.
You have every right to brag about these fabulous cards, Brian!! You never cease to amaze me with your talent and creativity!!! TFS!
Ooh vary pretty pretty ,good job !!
Oh, I just picked up 4 beautiful cards from the swap!!!!! 2 are from Diana D’Arminio, all the way from Wichita Falls, TX, 1 from Susanne Mize, all the way from Greenville, SC and another one from Bobby Miller, from Gilbert, AZ.
Wonderful, colorful, lovely cards, ladies, thank you so much.
I just received my cards and they are so so pretty …love each and everyone of them. They will go on display in my home for all to see. I will reveal who the talented artists are tomorrow because not everyone pops in and out of here like some of us do and I want to thank each person for their artwork… Thank you ,Brian …you did good !!!!! (and thank you for the $10 you put in each one of the cards..Santa came early this year!!!)
Sonny, that’s a good idea. Tomorrow I will again say the names of the ladies who’s cards I got. really lovely. What do you mean Santa came early?? You lucky girl you!!!!!
What a great idea to use up some Christmas scraps, but not make a Christmas card. My sister is a great quilter, and her birthday is two weeks after Christmas (and we won’t say how old she is either). This will be a perfect design for her. Thank you so much!
Brian, that card is just simply crazy/wonderful. You would crack up if you saw me read your postings every night. I usually gasp and say, “Wow!” when I see the card, then I laugh aloud at you have written. Thank you for inspiring us and making it so fun. I can hardly wait to try the herringbone technique.
Everyone has discribed how I feel about your cards! You are talented and entertaining. I enjoy your blogs and all you “Fan Club”. Happy day to all.
