Tea for Two

I told you on Tuesday how I wasn’t too keen on the Pop-Up Posies Designer Kit in the 2013 Spring Catalog.  Other than the gorgeous kraft tags that were included in the kit, I had no use for the kit.  Then, I made a beautiful gift box with the flower (see it here) and found the beauty in these flowers.  Once the kit was opened, I felt the need (SO MUCH PRESSURE) to make another project with the flower.

One thing I knew I loved in the Spring Catalog was the Tea for Two Designer Series Paper.  Since this paper features Calypso Coral and since the Pop-Up Posies Designer Kit features a Calypso Coral flower, it seemed like a match made in heaven.  Here’s my card:www.stampwithbrian.com - Tea for Two

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • Scallop Square Bigz Clear.  Measuring 4-3/8″ x 4-3/8″, the Scallop Square Bigz Clear die (used to create the Calypso Coral border in this card) is a perfect accent for a 5″ x 5″ card.  Quick and easy and essential.  I bought it with some Host(ess) Rewards a while back, but it’s been a feature in several of my favorite projects.
  • Color Balance.  Once I decided to feature Tea for Two, I knew I wanted to use this print (because I flipped through my handy-dandy swatch books to review the patterns with Calypso Coral on them 🙂 ).  I love the honeycomb print, too, but it was too busy to add a flower on top.  Anyway, this section of the paper included both the Island Indigo and Calypso Coral, so I positioned my flower accordingly.
  • Those petals!  My original plan (who ever completes a project with their original plan?) was to include the sentiment “I am here for you” from Petite Pairs that was punch with my Small Oval punch.  While looking for the right shape to punch around it, I played with several punches, including the Scallop Oval punch.  I didn’t like how they paired together (the Scallop Oval punch was too big), BUT I did like how the Scallop Oval punch could easily transform into a leaf.  Naturally, I added another and scored both down the middle.  Kismet!

Papers:  Island Indigo, Calypso Coral, Tea for Two Designer Series Paper, Lucky Limeade  Accessories:  Scallop Square Bigz Clear die, Pop-up Posies Designer Series Kit, Scallop Oval punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  1. Like this card… I am a fan also of the 4″ suare die…it makes a cute card also with some handy dandy trickery with your Big Shot…I haven`t used Calypso Coral much but think I will try a card or two with it for a change especially since it is in the Tea for Two dsp ….btw if you get a break from signing autographs at Leadership let me know if that blue in Tea for Two is Bashful Blue or Island Indigo stamped off …I think it`s BB but, not sure. ???

  2. I’m agreeing with you 100% Brian! I too didn’t think using the diecut flowers was going to be on my list of things I ran out of (quickly)…..BUT…..Guess Again! Not only did I go through the GORGEOUS Kraft Tags….But the Pop-Up Posies are gone too. LOVE IT when I find a SWEET LITTLE FIND like the Pop-Up Posies Designer Kit in one of our new catalogs. I’m off to go buy a couple more packages of these little sweet kits. Thanks for sharing your beautiful card.

  3. hey Brian, saw your Swatch Books on Mary`s blog … She knows a good thing when she sees it !!!

  4. Oh Brian, love the tip on how to create those leaves, my goodness, how clever you are!!!!! I love your card, that pretty flower needs nothing to get noticed, I’m glad you didn’t add the punched out sentiment, it would have looked a bit crowded.
How is the big SU reunion going? I really hope you take some cool pictures and, if you can, take one with Miss Mary Fish.

  5. This card is a beauty and I too felt I wouldn’t get much use out of the diecuts. You are inspiring as usual. Wonderful crafting!

  6. Happy Saturday! What a bright and cheery card with that flower popping off my iPad screen, Brian! Glad to “see” that you did not have a sentiment on the front of the card. I realize with this particular DSP, a sentiment was not only unnecessary, but could have been too much for the card front. But there are many times that I just want the design on the front with no sentiment … and other times, I may not have a sentiment that works for the card design or I just can’t make one work.
You know how eager we all are, Brian, to hear more about your time at Leadership! Just how many people are there? From your picture, it looks like A LOT! Enjoy the rest of your time in Orlando, Brian!

  7. Oh, how pretty! Love it. I wasn’t going to get the PoP Up Posies either; but, I am now. Thank you so much!

  8. As soon as the page loaded I was in love! I absolutely love this card!! I love Calypso Coral as one of my favorite retired colors is Cameo Coral. Calypso Coral is a shade darker. Love them both! Have a Super Saturday Brian! 🙂

  9. Love it!!! Can’t wait to play with mine now!! Let’s here more about your trip to Orlando too!!

  10. Brian, you never ever cease to amaze me! First, this card. OMGoodness! It’s just a delight for my eyes! I love how you coordinate the colors so well…which brings me to my next comment.: “I ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THE PAPER SWATCHES I GOT YESTERDAY !”” There, didn’t mean to “yell” but what a great idea, and of course they are oh so tastefully put together. I spend so much time trying to choose my colors and DSP, because, well, I’m just a weirdo I guess. This is going to make my life so much easier in my craft room…and, I am going to show these off at my workshops so my guests can see the paper and coordinating card stock so they (hopefully) will place an order because they can’t resist! 🙂 Thank you so much for all you do Brian…

  11. Wonderful kit…wonderful card! Ok, now I’m sold too!! I just put in an order this week and now I’ve got to make another list…;D! Have fun and tell us all about it when you come back {but I know you will, anyway}!!

  13. I’m back after a week of frustration with my internet provider. Technology, love it when it works but when it doesn’t it, well lets just say I was not a happy camper. I have been catching up on everything I’ve missed out on. Brian, I say ‘kudos’ on all your creations with past week. Also, a very very Happy Belated Birthday to your Mom. Enjoy the rest of your stay at Leadership.!

  14. Beautiful! Love the fun colour combo!
