Every now and then, I post a card I really love (but that I did not make) and share with you the reasons I love it. I think of it as a study of card design. So often, we see a card we like and say, “I like that card. I want to make a card just like it.” What we SHOULD say is, “I like that card. What do I like about it? Is it the pattern or the colors or the feeling it evokes? I want to recreate that thing I like – but in a card design of my own.” Anyway, I’m going to share three things (yes, I’ve narrowed it down to just three things) I like about Pam’s card – and then I’m going to tell you why I adore Pam so much). 🙂
I joined Pam’s team a little over a year ago, and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’ve made a wonderful friend, and I adore her. I won’t get ahead of myself, though, so here are my Three Things I Like:
- Stippled Blossoms. I have recommended this stamp set to customers and have enjoyed showing them how to use the 2-step set, but I have never purchased this set for myself – until last month. I have it now, so you will start to see it. Back to the card – I love the way Pam has positioned the large blossoms on this small card front. None of the blossoms are fully shown in the pattern, making it a perfect background piece. At the same time, the flowers are (without a doubt) the focal point of this card.
- Color, color, color. I am always astounded when another designer uses colors I would never have paired together – I love it. If you had told me that you were designing a card with Tangerine Tango and Daffodil Delight Flowers, I would ask you to please stop and reconsider – BUT these work really well. Pam does a great job of balancing the three colors really well such that no color overwhelms the total project.
- Texture. You know I love a card with varied textures. This one has it all. The ribbon is so smooth and silky that you WANT to run your finger over the picture just to feel it. Pam offsets the layers of cardstock with a polka dot piece of Daffodil Delight – again, don’t you just want to run your fingers over it?
Pam has been a stamper for years, and she’s really, really talented. She studies stamping technique, constantly looks for new ideas and loves to talk about stamping – you know I love that! Above all this, though, Pam is a wonderful human being with lots of compassion and love for others. She is a true friend. When I was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday night two weeks ago (if you are saying, “WHAT?!”, then you can check out my post here), I had a workshop scheduled for the following night. I hadn’t prepped the projects for the party (that was my plan for Tuesday night). I didn’t want my hostess to go without, so I offered the workshop to Pam. Pam jumped right in and put together amazing projects and drove across town to pull off a wonderful workshop. I was so thankful that she was able to do it, and I was so happy for her to land this great party. BUT Pam refused to book the party as her own (my express expectation all along). She insisted that this was MY party and that I should record it that way. Sure, I booked the party, but she did the work. It wasn’t necessary for her to do that, but I appreciate her support and generosity. She’s just like that.

I would never tire of looking at Pam’s artwork! Beautiful! I love how the roses run right off the card, leaving little white around the edge, her color pallet looks fantastic!
First of all, Pam’s card is so cheery and bright. Such perfect placement of the flowers! I continue to struggle with that … perhaps doing it more would help instead of shying away from it. I could just feel the texture of the ribbon (and the embossing) as you described it, Brian. I do so LOVE the texture of that satin ribbon. The color choices just make me happy, too. You can almost feel sunshine on your face.
What a wonderful team leader Pam is! Thank you, Pam, for taking such good care of Brian’s workshop guests during his unexpected hospital stay.
Love, love this card!! The colors are really so bright and happy. I love this stamp set, you can use any color for the flowers and they will always look amazing. The EF is already on my list for April, among other things. Thank you Pam for sharing this really beautiful card.
Wonderful work Pam. I think of a summer bouquet of flowers looking at your card. Where the bouquet will wilt and die, your card will live on forever to enjoy! Also, a BIG THANK YOU for taking care of our dear Brian during his unfortunate hospital stay. 🙂
Well…now I love Pam too !!! She is on my list of “Warm and Fuzzie People ” This card is so so pretty …Believe or not I was going to order Stippled Blossoms on my next order because it just delivers that “ahhhhhhh”. (thank you , to my friend Maria for sending me a stamped Stippled Blossom so I could see it in the real ) As far as these colors …I like to put the yellows and greens together especially in the spring . And for those of you that don`t have this ribbon …get some just to feel it . I love it !! Problem is I won`t use it because I don`t want to run out of it !!! Thank you , Brian for sharing Pam with us …. and her beautiful card !!
Pam’s card was such a wonderful way to start the day! Bright and cheerful. I love bright, I love shiny, I love glitter (oops, Sorry Brian and yes, I realize there wasn’t any glitter on this card but I got a bit carried away)! Pam must be such a great person and wonderful friend. Brian, I am sure if the situation were reversed you would have done the same for Pam. Isn’t it one of life’s greatest gifts to have loving giving friends?
Fabulous Pam! We all love her and the excitement she brings to Stampin’Up! Being one of her downline, I may sound a little prejudice but I think I speak for all who know her! Pam and Brian, what a duo! Love you both!
Thank you Anne. I will see you Monday!
Brian, this is a sweet write-up of our friend Pam! Well done! I imagine she is “sniff, sniff” about now… 🙂
Sniff, sniff.
what a lovely card!
The card is lovely, but I have to say you are right on with Pam. I’ve never met her in person but her smile radiates straight to the heart, she sounds like one of the greatest friends anyone could have and her actions prove it. You are blessed Brian!
Well, you CLEARLY have great taste in card makers! Beautiful, indeed!
I really , really, really, love this card!
Brian, I’m in total agreement with you. Both the card and the card maker are wonderful! I had the pleasure and honor of meeting Pam. She is indeed creative, and more importantly, warm-hearted, thoughtful, and fun-loving. Thanks so much for sharing!
Well, I have to say that I am incredibly blessed and very touched by today’s post and responses. I do love the way this card turned out. I wanted to make sure I had something really pretty for Brian’s workshop since it was also the first week of spring. I was so relieved that Brian approved! Being Brian’s upline is the best job I have ever had! Never a dull moment and he will be a lifelong friend.
This card is beautiful. I’m making it right now!
Pam’s card is fabulous….could not have described it nearly as well as you did (LOL!)…..I also would not have thought to put those two colors together, but anyone who knows how to mix colors and create such a wonderful card, would do exactly that and make us all drool….wipe, wipe!!! Thanks Brian….
Pam rocks!
Such an absolutely gorgeous card. Is there more than one color of green ink that is used on it?
I agree. As far as I know, it was just Gumball Green. Knowing Pam, she stamped off the solid leaf once to get a muted look and stamped the more detailed leaf with a solid inking of Gumball Green. I’m not CERTAIN that’s the case, but we’ll go with it for the sake of simplicity. 🙂
Makes sense! Thanks, Brian…and I hope you are feeling 100% better now. And just as a side note, I couldn’t remember the name of your website off the top of my head, so I figured I could just Google Brian King and you would be at the top. Surprisingly enough, you were NOT at the top! lol See how popular I figured you would be? Then I added Stampin Up and of course you came up. 🙂
