It’s been a while since I’ve written a “Three Things I Like” post, and today seems like as good a time as any. Last week I received a beautiful, Fall-themed flip card from one of my newest team members, Kelly DeTommaso. I like it so much that I’ve included several photos here and am sharing with you three things I like about it. That’s right – I’m limiting myself to just three things. After you see this card, you will understand the difficulty of my restraint. First, three pictures of the “active” card. Then, three things I like. Here’s Kelly’s card:
Three Things I Like:
- Texture. After Kelly cropped the flip card with the Label Card Thinlits Die, she ran the card back through The Big Shot in the Woodgrain Textured Embossing Folder. I love the detail this adds to this panel of the card. Not only does the woodgrain texture complement this Fall-themed card, but the texture is very unexpected on a flip card and a very impressive addition. You already know I like a pop of texture on a card – I really like this added texture.
- Sponging Detail. This card is jam-packed with great sponging detail. I don’t use sponges a lot to accent my projects, so I really love it when I see it done well. Not only did she incorporate great technique by adding light shades of different colors on the maple leaf, but she sponged each of the panels on the label, adding a beautiful shadow around the layers. Although the leaf on the label is not sponged (it appears to be stamped off and stamped lightly), the leaf complements the sponging. That might be a FOURTH thing I like, but I feel like I successfully wove that one into this section on sponging. You be the judge!

- The Added Panel. I’ve seen this added panel on other cards, but this is the first one I’ve seen in person. The longer card base is placed on the outside of the thinlit die when the die is run through the Big Shot. The flip card die allows for a great card, but we aren’t left with a large space to write our sentiment. By adding this panel, Kelly had lots and lots of space to write a wonderful note to me inside. Yay!
Please let Kelly know how much you love her card. I’m sure you’ll be seeing more from her soon — Kelly has set up a blog but has yet to start posting.

So much to take in! Kelly your layout is so smart adding the woodgrain texture with the elements of the maple leaf including your designer paper choice! I love the extended card length, great work! Consider taking that step to Blog land you’ll meet so many friends around the world! Thanks for sharing Brian!
Could a flip card get any better than this?!! You rocked this Kelly and thanks Brian!!! Awesome texture and detail!!! 🙂
Great card Kelly and welcome to Brian’s team. I’m all about fall and this card fits right in. I agree with everything Brian pointed out. Good Luck with your new blog. Hope to see more of your work and be sure to let us know the name of your blog.
Pretty card…and I love to use the Woodgrain texture to cards for this season also . I like the subtle stamped off leaf behind the sentiment . This is indeed a more than three feature card !
I agree with Host Brian ….your shading is 5 star !!! I am still working on mine (sigh)
Can`t wait to see more of your cards !
What a beautiful Fall card, Kelly!! This DSP is one of my favorites, I love the colors of the Fall and this paper has them all. The wood grain EF looks fabulous with that gorgeous maple leaf, Brian was right on the money pointing out some of the great aspects of your card, thank you both for sharing.
Truly lovely card! Love the colors, the texture, the sponging and warm fall feeling of your card, Kelly. Have fun with your blog!
Nice job, Kelly! Love the woodgrain for fall!
Beautiful card, Kelly! Very clean, but oh so detailed.
Great card Kelly. Can’t wait to see your blog. You have a great leader here to teach you lots of things and I’m sure you will have a “faithful following” once you have your blog up and running. Good luck!
I’ve seen the extended flip card, too, but never with the extra panel trimmed out to fit around the label or circle portion of the flip. Nice job, Kelly! Really awesome card.
What a great Fall Card. The colors, the textures are wonderful, very inspiring.
Hi Everyone, this is Kelly… I am so touched and encourged by your nice compliments on my card. It is one of my personal favorites. I saw this concept with the extra panel on pintrest and had to try it for myself. I liked how it turned out that I made myself about 10 extras. I can only hope to inspire my blog followers as much as Brian inspires us all. Your encouraging words mean so much to me. My blog is “under construction” right now. My blog name is kellyscreativecorner.com. Be sure to check it out in a week or so.
OMG.. I am just reading your post. Welcome Kelly! I was shocked to see Kelly is from Harleysville, PA. I good friend of mine use to live there for the past 10 years and just moved again. I had never heard of Harleysville prior to that. Love that technology allows our world to seem even smaller. Kelly’s card has a lot to love about it!
Thank you so much.
