A Simple “Hi” and Pam’s Birthday Lunch

Today is October 30, and that means two things:  (1) yesterday was Pam’s birthday (more on that later) and (2) tomorrow is Halloween.  It also means that you only have a couple of days left to use up all that gorgeous Witches’ Brew Designer Series Paper you bought for your Halloween Projects.  Time is a-tickin’, people.  Wait!  What’s that?  You’re absolutely right!  There are plenty of ways to use this DSP in non-Halloween projects.  Last week I used a sheet of it to make a beautiful anniversary card (see it here).  That brings me to today’s quick and simple, but [in my humble opinion] beautiful, card:Regarding Dahlias, Stampin' Up! Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Keep it simple.  You know I love my white space, right?  I also love simple card construction.  With beautiful DSP and a great sentiment, 90% of the work is done for you.  Select some simple colors and add a couple of borders.  Done.  I couldn’t think of anything else to add to this card because I don’t think it needs anything else.
  • Sentiment Placement.  Without a doubt, the bold “hi” (from Regarding Dahlias) is the focal point of this card front.  Even though the pattern in the DSP is busy and all-over-the-place, the eye is still drawn to the thick-bordered “hi” weighted into the bottom, right corner.  The DSP is just a cool background for the bold sentiment.
  • Breaking the Barriers.  If you want to successfully place something on top of a busy pattern, create a thick, solid border to set it apart from the pattern.  By combining a small Very Vanilla circle with a large Basic Black circle, I have given the sentiment a large border so that it sets itself apart from the busy background.

Pam’s Birthday Lunch

Pam and Brian celebrate Pam's birthdayYesterday was Pam’s birthday.  I shared her birthday card here.  We met for lunch at Goldberg’s Diner, our favorite lunch spot in Atlanta – Pam and I go there every time we stamp together.  We each had the salad plates (because you asked – Pam had Chopped Liver Salad and Whitefish with an Everything Bagel, while I had Whitefish Salad and Smoked Salmon Salad with an Everything Bagel).  Fish and an everything bagel – I was good and ready to head back to the office.  🙂

I made a fake birthday card for Pam to see if she would tell me “I love it” even if she didn’t.  Here’s how that turned out:

Thanks for stopping by my blog today,

Brian
