Great Sport Note Cards

It’s great to challenge ourselves with complicated techniques and intricate designs. Every once in a while, though, it’s nice to un-complicate things. That’s when we look for a project that’s quick and easy. Bold and beautiful. Festive and cute. Peanut butter and jelly. OK, we aren’t looking for peanut butter and jelly, but that’s a pretty easy sandwich to make, so maybe it DOES fit the bill. [Please hold while I grab me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich]. I’m back! Where was I?  Oh, yes.  Quick and easy…

Months ago, I signed up to host a table at a fundraiser that was held last week.  When I signed up, I didn’t realize I’d be in Utah for last week’s event.  Pam offered to step in and had a great time making a bunch of cards and tags to sell.  Before I left, I made a bunch of notecard packs to add to her table stash.  Here are three of the quick-and-easy cards I made using Great Sport: Great Sport, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

They are so easy and so versatile.  With no sentiment on the outside or inside, these cards might be a perfect way to teach your child to say “thank you” or “Hi, Grandma.”  They could be used as a great invitation to an all-star tournament or to a game watching event.  I made up several packs of each of these sports (soccer, basketball and baseball – as if you didn’t already know that) and was certain they would sell like hotcakes [do hotcakes really sell well?]. When Pam came back with the tallies from the event, I couldn’t believe my ears [my ears are really pretty unbelievable]. Can you guess how many packs of these adorable cards sets she sold? I’m not going to tell you – but it rhymes with “hero” and starts with a “z.” Tomorrow is another day.

Here’s why these cards were so easy to assemble – the gorgeous emblem is stamped with Island Indigo and lined up with a Stamp-a-ma-jig. The balls are stamped with Basic Black (the soccer ball is stamped on Whisper White, the basketball is stamped on Pumpkin Pie, and the baseball is stamped on Sahara Sand) and punched with a 1-3/8″ Circle punch. Each ball is dimensionalized with a Stampin’ Dimensional. I added two or three dimensionals under each ball so that they wouldn’t get crushed and lopsided in the mailing process.

  1. Wow! Love these sport cards! They are perfect for any sport person out there! They would be very easy to make! Thank you for the inspiration!:-)

  2. Brian…I totally understand your dismay! I, too have been so excited about a few designs that I was sure would be a big hit at craft fairs, only to bring most back home. There is just no accounting for taste. These sets are very cool looking and perfect for so many occasions.

  3. Well Brian, you made me want to get a PB&J sandwich, one of my most favorite things to eat, delicious and amazingly nutritious. Anywho, I’m thinking of only one word that starts with “Z” and rhymes with “Hero” so, I hope what happened at the fundraiser has nothing to do with this word. Maybe there were no sports fans in that crowd??!!! This cards are simply beautiful, they should sell like Pancakes, (and yes, pancakes do sell real well), so I hope you are just teasing.
As always Brian, thank you for the laughs this morning, you are a clever and funny writer as you are an amazing crafter.

  4. Are you kidding me? Hero with a z sold? That’s ridiculous!!! The second I saw the cards I was thinking that I need to buy both of these stamp sets because your cards rock! Hero with a z???

  5. I love these cards Brian, they are all great!!! They could also have been for parents to thank the coaches, but maybe they don’t do that anymore either. 🙂

  6. I think the cards are a cute idea, CAS. Remember that timing is everything, baseball is over and basketball has just appeared on the horizon. That may have had an impact…. So do not fret!

  7. I agree with Cindie Brian, timing IS everything. Right now everyone is concentrating on Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas. Were these A2 size cards or smaller? There’s no accounting for what goes on in people’s mind. I think they are terrific.

  8. At our church craft fair earlier this year I sold the same number of cards! Unfortunately, the social graces of yesteryear are a thing of the past. People email invitations to a party!!! Where is Miss Manners when you need her? We need to re-educate the masses!!! Love your card Brian. I too thought of ‘sports award’ when I first saw this stamp set.
