You Made My Day with Mojo Monday

This week’s Mojo Monday sketch is cute and simple – a lot of options for any card maker’s style.  I decided to go with cute and simple.  Here’s my card:

And here’s Julee Tilman’s sketch that inspired my card:Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Groovy!  In addition to the groovy colors, there are three elements on this card that are super-groovy.  Let’s start with the Crushed Curry Designer Series Paper from Sweater Weather.  The white snowflake/floral patterns are straight out of a wallpaper from the ’70’s, don’t you think?  Then there’s the uber-groovy sentiment – it’s not that “you made my day” is attached to the era, but the way the letters are scripted is very true to that time.  And let’s not overlook the black eye susan – how many white dinner plates did you have with this image on it?
  • Tailored ribbon.  While Julee’s sketch calls for a big, pillowy bow, I decided to wrap Crushed Curry bakers twine around the base of the card piece several times.  I didn’t want a bow to take away from the featured flower.  No tie, no bow – just a tailored wrapping of twine to add an element to this card without creating a stink.
  • Fixin’ it.  Before I added the strip of Designer Series Paper, I had a 2″ strip of Island Indigo running down the front of the card.  I thought the simplicity would be great, but the card really needed more.  A slightly thinner strip of DSP was the perfect fix.

  5. Groovin’ on a sunny afternoon……..totally cool. Putting myself out on a limb here, Island Indigo bakers twine mentioned in description. I don’t see it. Must be time for an eye exam. Please forgive me for pointing this out. Your card is way out there man…………………….Great.

    • Thanks, Lisa. Good catch on the baker’s twine mishap. Funny story (OK, probably not THAT funny), but as I was hitting “post” on this blog entry, I thought, “Did I write something about Island Indigo in this post? I should proabably reread this.” I then hit post and shut down my computer. 🙂

He loves me….He loves me not ….that`s what this card reminds of …so bright and a nice change from the Autumn and Christmas colors …although I was wondering if a Christmas card done in yellow would just be too far out !!! Hey, Santa …how about offering gift cards to be mailed with a Christmas card for certain amounts ? Just saying !
