I [Blank] You for FabFri and FMS

Yesterday, I shared with you that I have been asked to join the Fab Friday Design Team.  Woo hoo!  Today, I am sharing a card I made for this week’s Fab Friday Color Challenge (I don’t start on the team until the next challenge on February 13).  The layout for this card is inspired by Linda Callahan’s super-fun sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  In honor of both design teams and the upcoming Day of Love, here is my card:

Dude You're Welcome, Best of Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri34, FMS121

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Mixing Textures.  I love to play around with textures on a card.  While today’s card is made with only smooth card stock, the pieces appear to have very different textures.  By its nature, Crumb Cake card stock has a very natural texture, so there’s a start.  The “I [Blank] You” sentiment (from the Dude, You’re Welcome kit) has a distressed look about it, which pairs nicely with the bold, solid background paper.
  • Trimming the Stamped Image.  Rather than cut the paper and then try to stamp the image on it, I stamped the “I [Blank] You” on a scrap piece of Whisper White and then trimmed around it.  I lined up the base of the image along the ruler of the trimmer and cut away.  I then turned the image around on the trimmer and cropped each of the edges.Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Balancing Colors.  I always lay out all of my pieces on a card to make sure the colors are perfectly balanced (by perfect, I mean “the way I want them to be”) and aren’t doubled up in any place – there’s nothing worse than two pieces of the same color of card stock piled on top of each other (well, second only to two mountains in a row – anyone remember that?

Stamp Sets:  Dude You’re Welcome, Best of Love  Papers:  Crumb Cake, Real Red, Whisper White, Coastal Cabana, Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack  Inks:  Crumb Cake, Real Red  Accessories:  Hearts Collection Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I’ve been very impressed and pleased with all of the support I have received since joining Brian’s team.  I am a hobby stamper but I’m just as important to him as the career team members. – Dee C.

  1. Happy Sunday, Brian: I didn’t have a chance to comment on yesterday’s fabulous cards, love the tip on how to line up the polka dots perfectly. I also wanted to congratulate you on your promotion, well deserved, I might add, for all your hard work and dedication.
Today’s card is also fabulous, your attention to every detail and your explanation of the WHY you decided to choose a stamp or DSP, helps me a lot when it comes to putting a card together.
