Celebrate with The Pals Paper Arts

Woo hoo!  I’ve got another square card for you today.  I know, I know.  When the Fungeon starts churning out square cards, it’s nearly impossible to turn them off.  They just keep coming – one right after the other.  This is the last in the series of square cards for this week.  This card was created for The Pals Paper Arts color challenge (Blushing Bride, Rose Red and Basic Gray).  Here’s my card:

Happy Congratulations, Fabulous Phrases, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA190

And here’s the color challenge banner from The Pals Paper Arts:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Repetition of Borders.  The layout of this card is really quite simple – one panel with a sentiment along the side.  To add a little intrigue, I repeated the stacking of layers from the outside of the card with the stacking of layers around the panel on the inside of the card.  From the outside-in, the colors repeat in the same order as the outside.
  • Stamp Off.  I just love this stamp set.  It’s so flexible to make soft and gentle lanterns or bright and cheery lanterns.  I chose to “stamp off” my Basic Gray and Rose Red lanterns once before stamping on the cardstock.  (“Stamp off” means you ink up the stamp, stamp it once or twice on scratch paper and then stamp the image on the cardstock.)  This gives a lighter look to the lanterns, allowing them to be imperfectly stamped.   I stamped the repeated sentiment along the side of the lanterns as such (moving from the bottom to the top):  Basic Gray, Rose Red, Rose Red (stamped off once), Blushing Bride, Blushing Bride (stamped off once), Blushing Bride (stamped off twice).Happy Congratulations, Fabulous Phrases, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA190
  • A Snidge of Ribbon.  You already know I like threes (three strings of lanterns), but are you familiar with my thoughts about grounding images?  I might sometimes leave sentiments dangling in the middle of a cardfront, but I mostly like to “hang” them off something.  There’s not a lot of space between the panel and the edge of the cardfront, so there’s just a snidge of Blushing Bride ribbon peeking out of the top and bottom of the panel, but it certainly does ground the panel, don’t you think?  It makes a difference – even if it’s just a snidge.

I am also entering today’s card in The Card Concept challenge – to monochromatic pink.  The shades of pink really work well together on this card.

Stamp Sets:  Happy Congratulations, Fabulous Phrases  Papers:  Basic Gray, Rose Red, Whisper White  Inks:  Basic Gray, Rose Red, Blushing Bride  Accessories:  3/4″ Chevron Ribbon (Blushing Bride), Stampin’ Dimensionals

  1. Oh Brian! Wonderful new layout! This layered stamped lantern placement is fabulous to the side allowing the ombre sentiment run up the right! My goodness these lanterns look soft enough to be made of paper. (oh I guess they are) but look so real! I’ve always liked this stamp you sure did it justice. Love!

  2. I use my cell phone’s alarm to wake up in the morning, so I also take a quick look at your blog entry for the day, Brian, on the phone, too. Once I have my cup of coffee, I sit down with my laptop. Since my first look at your daily entry is on a little screen and my eyes are just opening for the day, I generally miss something! And I didn’t see your “snidge” of ribbon the first time; then I saw it on the BIG SCREEN! What a easy way to ground your image panel … very effective and a way to use the wide chevron ribbon. Your stamping off technique used throughout the card is just right for today’s color challenge! I am going to try your “snidge” idea with the chevron ribbon, too! Thanks, yet again, Brian.

  3. LOVE your card…that is my favorite stamp set from the mini catalog.

  4. I LOVE the ombré look with the stamped off greeting! Brilliant! Did you use the Stamp-a-Magig?

    • Kelly, I could never have lined these up without my Stamp-a-ma-jig and grid paper. Never. I was shocked when they came out OK – I mean I knew they would look this good. 🙂

  5. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!!! this card. Specially the way you stamped the sentiment, you did the “stamp off” technique to perfection!!!!! This card, even with it’s soft colors, is an eye opener, I can’t help but stare at it, delighting in every single, delicious detail. What a gift for my eyes!!!!!

  6. Well…what is there left to say ? I agree with all your “Blogger Family ” !! This card is a “WOW”…. Love love the details … and unlike some others I wasn`t too taken with this stamp set right away (loved the sentiments) but, this has changed my mind ! Great card …really …a great card !

    • I don’t remember seeing this set on my first pass through the catalog (and I study these catalogs), but when the catalog went live, three or four of my customers ordered it, forcing me to take another look. 🙂

  7. Genius, once again! LOOOOVe it!

  8. Yes, I agree with all of the above. 🙂
