What a crazy week it’s already been!ย Yesterday was Day 2 of the Atlanta shutdown, and today will be Day 3.ย I know, I know.ย While there are people who will chuckle at our inability to operate in snow, this is not snow.ย All night Tuesday night, we experienced raining ice and sleet that has accumulated into a solid covering on everything outside.ย More sleet and ice and snow last night ensures we are locked inside until everything thaws.ย Here’s the really bad news – because I have to walk outside and downstairs to enter the Fungeon, I’m not able to create new projects until everything thaws.ย That’s why it’s so awesome that I completed all of this week’s projects last weekend.ย Woo hoo!
Just in time for the winter chill, the Pals Paper Arts has issued a bright, Spring-y color challenge with Gumball Green, Pumpkin Pie and Whisper White.ย Here’s my card:
And here’s this week’s challenge banner from The Pals Paper Arts:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Orange and Green.ย This is a tricky color combination to work with.ย Yes, the colors are bright and clean – perfect for Spring.ย While Gumball Green and Pumpkin Pie complement each other well, though, my eyes tell me that they don’t look wonderful when they are backed up against each other.ย That’s where the Whisper White comes into play.ย Despite the many layers on this card, you’ll see that a solid layer of Gumball Green never touches a solid layer of Pumpkin Pie.
- My Mistake.ย While I was layering the orange and green banner, I knew I’d be adding a solid orange butterfly from Nature’s Hello, one of the hostess sets from The Occasions Catalog.ย This would be easy.ย When I was done, though, I saw this:ย
Do you see it?ย “Hello. Hello”ย That wouldn’t work, so I reached for Backyard Basics and then layered that butterfly on top of the “Hello” butterfly.ย Flipping the wings a little made it extra-special.
- Tag a Bag Accessory Kit.ย So, where did I get that Gumball Green and Whisper White banner in the center of the card?ย You asked that question, right?ย I’m not just making this up.ย It’s from the Tag a Bag Accessory Kit in the Annual Catalog.ย Even if you never want to make designer tags for beautiful gifts (not to insinuate you like to give ugly gifts), the tags and baker’s twine are perfect for your card making.
Stamp Sets:ย Perfect Pennants, Nature’s Hello, Backyard Basicsย Papers:ย Gumball Green, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White, Quatrefancy Specialty Designer Series Paper,ย ย Inks:ย Pumpkin Pieย Accessories: ย Tag a Bag Accessory Kit, Blender Pen, Banners Framelits, Backyard Basics Framelits, 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll check out the cards from the other design team members at The Pals Paper Arts.
Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

I”m surprised you have power, but maybe your power lines are underground in the city and do not succumb to the layers of ice. Enjoy your day off with your kitty! So, todays card challenge. Wow this color could not be more fresh! I love the doubled up butterfly “flying” off the page thanks to your “flicking” technique to the card stock!
Stay safe! Pretty card! Have to read your article in our SU magazine….I flipped thru it quickly last night before heading to bed…..congrats…..artist …now writer!!!!!
Stay warm.
I agree with Patti on all counts!! Ice is paralyzing, whether in a large city or a small town & the scariest part of winter in my opinion. How lucky for all your loyal readers that you were so productive last weekend AND you have your internet connection!!! ๐ You have made this bold color combo so bright and cheery!! Your layers are integral to the appeal of this card Brian, and my favorite parts are 1) the DSP patterns, 2) the Gumball Green Ribbon, & 3) the butterfly’s double layer wings!!!
We were living in Atlanta during another big ice storm in 1973 … we were without power for 3 days. We were living around I-85 and Shallowford Rd. So glad you have electricity!!! We had a thunderstorm last night that sent my husband right out of his chair! (I wasn’t sitting or I would have jumped as well.) Strange weather everywhere this winter!
This color combo has to cheer you up after all the gray skies and ice even if you can’t get down to the Fungeon. The double butterfly not only covers up the double hello, but adds just the right amount of depth.
If you start feeling withdrawal from not being able to create down, you can use some of Bandit’s kitty litter to make a path down to the Fungeon! ๐
This card is very nice. I like the tag layers the best! ๐
so glad to see you still have power. i think it is time to install a firemen’s pole to get to the fungeon at least to get you down there but not sure how to get you back up !!! love the card today and double butterflies are always fun.
stay safe and warm and hope things melt soon. crazy weather every where.
Hello, hello! I can’t believe that with three days off from work that you can’t stamp! I hope you had a chance to at least play with MDS. :-).
I’m surprised you still have power Brian, I hope your Fungeon is not to cold. I know how bad this storm is hitting your neck of the woods, so stay safe and warm.
Your card is a beautiful reminder that, in spite of this horrific Winter, Spring is right behind so, lets just hang in there, soon the ice and snow will melt, the birds will sing again, the flowers will bloom and the sun will really warm all of us.
Thank you for this delicious splash of happy colors, we all need it.
I like this card ! I would like to try your design in another color combo . The butterfly adds a touch of softness . Yay for butterflies !
As far as the weather….right there with ya ! We are housebound here in N.C. and they told us last night we could get more freezing rain or snow on top of our accumulation from yesterday ! Now is the time for you to to do that “Snipping ” that you find relaxing !! And I loved the article in the Stampin Success on you !!
I told you I joined Stampin` Up for the magazine !
Love this….great design and colors! This has been a crazy winter, we are currently getting heavy snow, the area I live in PA is in the 14+ range for snow. Thankfully we may not get the ice this time around (that was last week), this is a heavy snow though and we are expected to get some high winds-hopefully no power outages, some in our area just got it back early this week. I am planning on doing some crafting today-need to get my craft mojo going! Stay safe and warm!
It’s a very cheery card, Brian. Sorry that the Fungeon is inaccessible, now that just isn’t right! (Guess you’ll have to peruse the blogs like the rest of us, lol.)
Stay warm, stay safe!
Nice bright card! Congrats on your “write up” in Stampin’ Success! You’re a celebrity now. You need a shovel to shovel yourself a path down to the fungeon! I’m also snowed in here in NC but all I have to do is walk upstairs to create. Got a lot made yesterday while watching the snow fall outside. I imagine it will be the same today since I’m sitting here watching it sling down the snow outside – about 5″ so far.
Everyone is in great need of an bright and cheery pick me up and your card does the trick. Goodbye winter, hello spring please! How horrifying that the Fungeon has been shutdown! You must be in deep despair. Think positive, it will all be over soon.
Such a bright happy card, it is awesome, hard colors but you so made it work. Now I think you should have a to go bag of stuff at the ready for those emergency no fungeon days when you need to stamp in your home.
Great card Brian, you managed to use those 2 bright colors and made them look fantastic.
Very bright and cheerful card!! Lots of layers with all the banners! Love how you took the butterfly “oops” and transformed it into a “yeah” affect! ๐
I’m from Texas and when you are in the South and your state is not equipped for such a rare event as your are experiencing (ice!! and snow) in Georgia, it is an ugly nightmare to say the least! Stay warm, stay safe!
Beautiful card Brian! It was 3* this morning – and lots of leftover snow from multiple snows – I’m sick of it!! Your card gives me hope that there will be flowers and green grass again! So sorry you can’t get to the Fungeon – like Carol said – you need to add stampin’ supplies to your emergency kit! Maybe you should design/make one and do a video on it:-)
post a picture, unless your camera’s in the Fungeon too, of what it looks like outside your window. we didn’t get the rain you got, but we got ice pellets and more snow overnight and have unplowed roads.
and yet, starbucks is debating opening. {sigh} why do we have such a hard time being still? we miss the wonderful butterflies of life when we rush to return to normal.
I just love everything about this card! Really like how you grounded the banners with the ribbon. Of course the fluttering butterfly is the icing on the cake. Stay safe.
A bright and cheery card Brian, too bad your weather doesn’t match it ๐ Stay safe and warm, hopefully no loss of power with the ice buildup.
Hope you are staying dry and warm in Atlanta. I live in Savannah and although we have not had the really bad weather you are getting, we are cold. In some areas here they have had bad ice storms. I absolutely love your card today. The colors are bold and beautiful and the Banner Die is a must have for me. Thanks for sharing.
Linda D.

Ooo, and happy VELENTINE TO MARROW
We feel your pain Brian. We’re getting 12-18″ of snow up here in Maine today and tomorrow. Great card! Happy St. Valentine’s Day tomorrow. : )
I opened your blog on this cold, snowy, wintry day and a huge smile lit up my face. The hubs looked at me and said “what’s so great on the internet that’s putting that big smile on your face?” I said “look, Brian made a happy card”! The color combo is fabulous but only because you used the white to break up the orange and green. AND, that gorgeous butterfly flying off the page. I just love, love, love this card Brian. Thanks for the smile on a terrible weather day!
I lived in Atlanta as a kid (Forest Park) – and I have pictures of me looking through the picture window out at a snowrabbit (as opposed to a snowman) that my da had made me as I had the mumps and was under house arrest (or so it felt).
I now live in outside Houston after living in West Texas (where it really does snow, and is expected to, and people know how to handle it when it does)…. if you think Atlanta is bad in the snow, please don’t come to Houston and get caught in the snow!!!!! It gets ugly :)…… Unlike your card, which is quite pretty! (You hoped I would work your artwork in their somewhere, I’ll bet!).
Stay warm and enjoy your snow day ๐
*** in the country outside of Houston – mercy!
Great card Brian. Love the color combo and you pulled everything off so effortlessly, as usual. I am so sorry to hear about all that horrible weather. Being from Chicago, I can sympathize for sure! My family and friends are doing the same thing you are; staying IN. But one more thing. What an awesome article in this months’ Stampin’ Up! magazine. I opened it and said “oh, my friend Brian’s in the magazine!” My husband said “who”? Then when I reminded him who you were he said oh cool! So, oh cool! Stay warm!
I really like the nice simple lines of this card and I love the way you used the DSP so that one didn’t overshadow the other. Very nice card, Brian!
Dear Brian, I am a โsilentโ follower of your blog for many months now. Itโs sad that you have to apologize for the catastrophic weather you are experiencing in Atlanta right now. I live in Vancouver, Canada and contrary to popular belief, not all of Canada is covered in snow. On the rare (trust me โ rare) occasion when Vancouver is hit with snow, the City grinds to a complete halt. Having visited Atlanta when I was 11 years old (a million years ago in the 1970s), I know what a beautiful City it is and I hope everyone is doing okay and surviving. While people may have it worse in other places, this is happening right now and to you, nothing to apologize for โ I know, youโre just that kind of guy โ youโd make a good Canadian! Thank you for your wonderful blog and all the inspiration you deliver day-to-day to all us readers. Stay safe and warm!
Wow! Love this bright beautiful card! Wonderful mix of patterns for the orange and green! Great design and sweet butterfly, too!
WOW!! This is amazing, You pulled this color combo off beautifully, I would never think of putting these two colors together.
Spring is 37 days away, LOL they say. I’m in Chicago and I sympathize with you. This winter has been a nightmare, i can manage cold, but the ice and blinding snow is horrific. Stay safe
Both my sons are electric lineman and have helped in the southern US with ice storms in past years. They can remember cars with radio antennae that were as thick as a broomstick with ice. Hang in there! No matter where you live, ice is treacherous.
Hey, Brian: I chuckled out loud when I saw your ‘hello, hello’ card. Then I tried to explain to my husband why it was funny. He just said I was weird; guess he doesn’t get ‘stamping humor’. But that’s why I visit with you every day! Wish I could come to your get-together on Sunday; it sounds like a lot of fun – a welcome break from the crazy weather (which I so understand, since that’s usually what we get here in Wisconsin – just think of putting up with this every winter!). Hugs!
Ooh, this is definitely a cheery one! And I love the dimension to the butterfly! ๐
I adore this card. So very perfect for spring. I really wish I had found your blog in time to make plans to atend your event this weekend. Hopefully, I will be able to trace over your way (I’m just in North Al) for your next work shop.
I adore this card! Great job. I tend to stray away from orange and this card make me want to use it all the time! I really wish I had found your blog in time to make plans to attend your workshop. It sound like fun and informative. A good combo! Hopefully your next workshop I will be able to trapes over your way(from North Al.)
Love all of the geometrics paired with the delicate butterfly. Great card!
