Life Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect

I warned you!  When the Occasions Catalog launched in January, I told you I was absolutely in love with one of the sentiments from Perfect Pennants – it’s still my favorite thing in the Occasions Catalog (not only do I love the sentiment behind the words, but I love the style of the written words).  I promised you that you’d see more of this sentiment, and I always make good on my promises.  🙂  Here’s a new card with this incredible sentiment:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Color Inspiration.  Over on my Facebook Page, I have been sharing color inspirations from clothing and home decor.  If I find a color combination I like, I share it.  This color combination of Island Indigo and Cajun Craze was inspired by a gorgeous Crate & Barrel pillow.  The moment I saw this pillow, I knew I’d be recreating this color combination in a project.  Love it!  Today is the day!Poppy Scroll 20" Sq. • Matching Patterns.  While the background of this middle section is bold and modern, the sentiment has a rough texture.  It’s a little sketched, a little distressed, a little smooth.  As I thumbed through the 6 Petite Petals images, this distressed and sketched flower seemed to be the best complement to the sentiment.

  • Perfectly Aligned Layers.  Yesterday I shared my tips for the perfect alignment of layers on a card.  Did you see my video (if not, check it out here).  With all the layers on this card, I knew I needed to get them right – a little pressure after I shared my tips.  I think I passed the test on this card.  Phew!

  1. Love the colour combo – love everything about it! Thumbs up for your alignment of layers!

  2. Great color combination – I wouldn’t have thought about using Cajun Craze! Thanks, Brian and Crate ‘n Barrel!

  3. Love that pillow, it’s colors are bold, bright and fabulous!! you nailed that color combination perfectly!!! This sentiment is really beautiful and so true. Thank you for sharing.

  4. Perfectly beautiful and the sentiment certainly says a lot. The colors are gorgeous together. Striking!

  5. The color combo is refreshing, Brian. Thanks for a well crafted beauty this morning with a great sentiment. I love that set, too!

  6. Yes, the sentiment is so true. Love it. Again with the white embossing and the added pearls. Lovely card.

  7. I like these colors and of course the sentiment is great . I just wish SU was like Netflix . You could pay a small monthly fee and check out stamps to use . This is a great sentiment ,but I can`t send it out to my card receivers over and over …. So I always usually pick the basic more versatile (boring ) sentiments ….sigh …

  8. I, too, love being inspired by other items I see whether it be a color combination or a particular pattern or both! Another wonderful card!

  9. Haven’t been a huge Cajun Craze fan (shhh, don’t tell anyone), but the way you paired it with the Island Indigo makes me want to try it out. ; )

Also to Sonny, consider that you could ink portions of the stamps to make a new sentiment, wouldn’t be easy (thank goodness for stamp-a-ma-jig), but different. Maybe….Good Life, Sending you a wish, sending wonderful thoughts. Well they might be corny, but different.

Thanks Brian for another great card idea!

    • I feel the same about Cajun Craze. Seems like one of those colors you put away when Fall turns to Winter, no? When I saw that pillow, I knew I’d be pulling out that ink and paper. 🙂

  10. What a fabulous card.It could be a great guy card minus the flowers.

  11. Love the idea of taking inspiration from interior design. When I’m not stamping (or waiting hand and foot on family), I enjoy watching TV or reading smut on my kindle while comfy on my favorite accent pillows that will make excellent cardspiration. They’re my favorite eye candy in the space; not sure why I didn’t think of this myself. Thanks, Brian!

  12. What a wonderful fresh modern card, Brian! Love the chevron background and embossed flowers with pearls! Great colors, too!

  13. You rocked this card… To me cajun craze screams “Autumn” Got me thinking out of the box… Thanks
