The Best Part of Waking Up…CCMC305 and FM162

I like to show diverse projects every day.  Something pretty, something bold, something new, something old.  (gosh, I’m a poet and didn’t realize it).  Now that I have my hands on some new products, I want every day to be an adventure in new products – “Did you see this?  Did you see that?”  All the best intentions, though, are completely shot today.  From the moment I saw this week’s Create with Connie & Mary sketch challenge, I knew I wanted to showcase the coffee cups from Perfect Blend.  Here’s my card:

Perfect Blend, A Dozen Thoughts, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CCMC305, FM162Here’s the blog banner for this week’s sketch from Create with Connie and Mary:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • What’s New?  I mentioned that I wasn’t really featuring new product on this card.  That’s not 100% true as there are two brand new items that add to the appeal of this card – even thought they aren’t front-and center.  The cup is decorated with a Coastal Cabana piece of Maritime Designer Series Paper, and the sun is dressed with Beach House Designer Washi Tape.  Woo Hoo!
  • A Textured Sun.  I love the slick texture of washi tape.  I layered this striped tape over a piece of Crushed Curry card stock and then cropped it out with the Starburst Framelits.  Clean and crisp – and it crops out like a charm!  The sun gets a shiny dose of smooth to create a backdrop for these mugs.
  • Color Combination.  I love the combination of Coastal Cabana and Crushed Curry.  One is bright and cheery, while the other is rich and regal.  Together, they are a knockout.  The best way for these colors to play off each other is to place them on a muted background.  I further muted the Smoky Slate-striped paper by mounting that on Basic Gray.  Things get brighter as you get closer to the focal point, allowing the Coastal Cabana to perfectly dance with the Crushed Curry.

Stamp Sets:  Perfect Blend, A Dozen Thoughts  Papers:  Basic Gray, Crushed Curry, Whisper White, Sahara Sand, Basic Black, Maritime Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Tuxedo Black Memento Ink  Accessories:  Happenings Simply Created Kit, Beach House Designer Washi Tape, Starburst Framelits, Project Life Corner punch, Hexagon punch (to crop the banner end), Stampin’ Dimensionals
