You’re a Star for the Pals Paper Arts

I’m so excited about all my new toys from the 2014-2015 Annual Catalog that I can hardly settle on which one I’m going to use next.  Decisions, decisions – why must life be so difficult?  The card I created for this week’s Red, White and Blue Color Challenge over at the Pals Paper Arts features three new items – Handcarved background stamp, Pictogram Punches stamp set and Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Red, White and Blue.  From the start of this Red, White and Blue color challenge, I just knew I wanted to use the “You’re a star” sentiment from Pictogram Punches.  I didn’t want to be blatantly patriotic, and I feel like this sentiment could easily be seen either way – it just depends on who you give it to. This keeps a bit of neutrality to this card so that the person who receives it can pick how they want to see it.
  • Playing Around.  I like to play around with papers, shapes and colors.  By the end of a project, I’ll have a table full of snips and shapes in several colors.  Each layer is cut in different colors so I can compare to decide what I like.  I will use the paper at some point, so it doesn’t go to waste.  Anyway, I knew I wanted to use Pictogram Punches, but it wasn’t until I was playing around with the sentiment that I would later decide that Handcarved would pair nicely.  One is clean and bold while the other is a bit distressed (but still bold).
  • Unheard of.  The things I will do for my craft!  Did you see the elephant in the room when studied my card?  If you weren’t paying attention, you might have missed that this card includes a small piece of Red Glimmer Paper.  That’s right, I used glimmer paper.  I picked up a small piece of  the paper (it’s stored in a container in the back corner of the Fungeon – the farthest distance it can get from my workstation).  I punched the star with my Itty Bitty Accents star punch – and the rest was history.Pictogram Punches, Handcarved, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA207Stamp Sets:  Handcarved, Pictogram Punches  Papers:  Night of Navy, Real Red, Whisper White  Inks:  Night of Navy  Accessories:  White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Red Glimmer Paper, Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, Ovals Collection Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  1. The first thing I saw on the card was the bling. That tiny star sure packs a punch! Great card Brian. : )

  2. Such a happy card! You can’t go wrong with red, white, and blue in my book. Fresh, sharp and crisp—a winner, Brian

  3. I don’t know what I enjoy more- your wonderful cards or the stories behind them! Live the sparkly star, it makes the card!

  4. LOVE the star- not “live” – can one “live” a star? Hmmmm…

  5. The “star” is the Real Star of this card—-really! Love the red glimmer star, it sets off the entire card.

  7. Love the red glimmer paper star, Brian! I’m so glad you made the long trip to the other side of the Fungeon to punch that tiny star with it. Did you need to sit down and catch your breath before heading back over to your work table to finish your card? 😉
What a super card for the challenge!

    • Suzie – I didn’t lose my breath from the walk. 🙂 I have to order another Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, though, because this one has touched the tiny, shiny stuff. Bag it up, and burn it! 🙂

  8. Oh Brian, I laugh every time you come in close contact with GLITTER or, in this case, Glimmer Paper. The fact that you store it in a corner of your Fungeon, far away from your work area is really something. For some reason, as I was reading how you punched this little red glimmer star, I laughed because somehow I imagined you, wearing one of those yellow suits people use to enter a contaminated area that covers you from top to bottom, and very carefully punching out this little star and getting out of there in a flash. Really, the things you do for this craft and us!!!!! That’s why we truly love you. This card is a winner, more so for the fact that you came in close contact with GLITTER!!!!! and survived.

  9. Brian, I called a therapist for you. 😉

    • LOL!! Kelly, we need to take care of Brian by any means possible. It’s rare that he uses anything with GLITTER and I suspect that he might have some nightmares about it. He is a brave and daring guy, I must say!!

  10. Wow! A glimmer paper star…that glitter /shimmer support group will be shocked….

  11. What a great card! The first thing I noticed was the red glitter star! Love it! Then I thought…..wait, glitter paper, Brian, oh my! LOL

  12. Love the glimmer star. I have to tell you I had not even noticed the Pictogram Punches stamp set until I saw your card. You always make me see things I missed. Thanks!

  13. Whew. We can all relax, the glimmer has been contained. Thanks for taking one for the team, Brian.

  14. What a great card! I’m one of those stampers that when I’m unsure about a stamp I wait until I see it used. You have just added two stamp sets to my wish list

  15. I sure hope you wore gloves when you touched that “red stuff” Brian! Great card and the red star adds the perfect touch!

  16. Well, glitter aside I feel like I am in that commercial “I made-ith thou look” I agree with Gigi …I missed that stamp set totally ! I actually thought I had missed a new punch …heaven forbid ! I am not a fan of that background stamp Hand Carved …but you made it work . Well, of course you did ! Like the card ….like the colors and now I have to add another stamp set to my next order ! Happy Thursday !

  17. That set is on my order which I hope arrives today! Love that little star…..baby steps……you could be throwing glitter by New Year’s Eve!

  18. What a great example of Clean and Simple combined with highly graphic! Reminds me of an ad in the 60s! My mother told me they looked like this! ;o)
