Clean, simple, easy – that’s what Simple Saturday is all about. Today’s project includes lightly distressed patterns with bold colors, but the overall look of the card is still very clean-and-simple. Here’s my card, based on this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- So Distressing. What is it that I love so much about Flashback Designer Series Paper? Is it the collection of colors Stampin’ Up! paired together, or is it the fun patterns designed for us on the pages of this paper pack? I’m a clean-and-simple guy, but I particularly love the lightly distressed look of these pages and mimicked the distressed look with this sentiment (also distressed) from Lots of Thanks.
- Color Selection. The patterned paper on the bottom of this card is one of my favorites in the Annual Catalog – so much so that I didn’t even want to cut into it. I knew I wanted to use this piece but referred to my Designer Series Paper Swatch Books to find a complementary pattern and to pair these pages with the right colors. Here’s the book with staggered pages for easy flipping. The back of the book has a list of the colors in the paper – perfect for quick and easy color coordination.
- Flip Flop. My original design (the one that popped into my head) included the patterned paper on top and the striped paper on bottom. Once I started working with sentiments, though, I realized the striped paper was better suited to showcase the sentiment. I simply flip-flopped the paper before adhering it to the card base. I separated the two patterns with two thin, but bold, banners right down the middle of the panel. I added three Pool Party Candy Dots to the banner to reference the Pool Party card base.

I paired the card with a Very Vanilla envelope – I simply covered the flap with an excess piece of this totally awesome Designer Series Paper pattern for perfect coordination.

Oh such a bright clean and simple card … it is “happy”! I love the Pool Party, Real Red, and Crushed Curry combination as well as the width of the space beneath the focal point of the card. Very effective! The long, narrow banners with the Pool Party Candy Dots that overlap the focal point and “hang off” the sides are so much better than, say, ribbon and the Candy Dots wrapped around it. Love it! Now, normally I don’t care for the distressed look on cards, but this card is a huge exception to that. The color combo is exciting yet peaceful. Kind of hard to explain. The banners and candy dots are real eye catchers. All in all an exceptionally gorgeous card Brian. You have yourself a fantastic day!
