Best. Day. Ever. – a Sneak Peak

I hope you enjoyed the first day of 2015.  I woke up early, enjoyed time in the Fungeon and savored some good food with great friends – Serina and Chris came over for a traditional, Southern New Year’s Day meal of collard greens, black-eyed peas, ham and hoe cakes (hoe cakes are savory cornbread pancakes).  Still celebrating from yesterday, here’s a super-cute, celebratory card:

Best Day Ever, Cheerful Critters, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Ooooh!  Sneak Peeks.  This card combines a sneak peek stamp set from the upcoming Occasions Catalog (released January 6) and the upcoming Sale-a-Bration Catalog (also released January 6).  Cheerful Critters is a photopolymer set that includes three adorable characters with cute, little sentiments for their signs (like “Happy Day”, “I Like Your Face” and  “Let’s Party!”).  The words I chose for their signs here are from Best Day Ever, a wonderful stamp set offering from Sale-a-Bration.  Woo hoo!
  • Blendabilities.  I stamped each of these cuties with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and the colored my fingers off with a variety of Blendabilities:  Skin Tone Assortment, Rich Razzleberry, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Smoky Slate and Melon Mambo.  I even added a little Pink Pirouette (one of the new Blendabilities offered in the Occasions Catalog) on the bunny’s ears.  I love the ease of coloring with Blendabilities.
  • Color Inspiration.  So, I was sitting there with a colorful image on Whisper White and needed to stamp my words and mount it on something, right?  I decided to use the colors of the central character (we’ll call her Miss Chicky) as inspiration for the rest of the card.  Seems to balance out the overload of color, huh?  I also made an envelope with Sweet Taffy Designer Series Paper – even though my card front is 3″ x 5-3/4″, that didn’t stop me from making an envelope.

  13. I normally do not care for cartoon type stamps but I have to admit that after seeing this card I’m having second thoughts. The colors here can only be described as “happy” and that makes me smile.

So glad you had a nice first day of 2012. While you ate Southern we celebrated the New Year with shrimp and sparkling apple cider! LOL I love the fact that many of us still choose to celebrate in traditional ways. In these days of technical craziness it’s nice to know we can step back once in a while.

  14. Ooo,Brian I love those guys. What a cute card !!! Where is the love button???

  19. Brian – just love getting your emails every day. I hope to have the opportunity to actually meet you at Convention – know who you are so I will look for you. But…..other then the cards, can I come for New Year’s Day next year – yummy southern food….

I am a demo in Nevada and you cards are inspiring and provide lots of good CASE opportunities for me to share with my group.

    Thanks again.

  20. OK…because of you, I reconsidered (and subsequently bought) the hairy Santa set from the Holiday Catalogue. Now, you’re going to make me buy the critters set from Occasions. You’re costing me too much money. 😛 Keep in mind that I’m paying Canadian prices. Ouch. Love how you combined these two sets; very clever.

  21. What a cute trio of little critters, this is a very versatile stamp, you can really put any message inside those spaces. Thank you for sharing.

  22. I just made this same idea with these two sets for a swap I am in! I love them together; almost like Stampin’ Up! planned it. I was also thinking it would be cute to do the signs as chalkboards with black CS cut to fit and using the new chalk inks, or just a white ink or embossed! love it!
