Love Life with Elegance

Elegant doesn’t have to be difficult, and simple doesn’t have to be ordinary.  I’m excited to share a card today that combines elegance and simplicity in a way that’s sure the cause a smile.  Quite simply, this card says, “I’m thinking about you. Remember to love life.”

Here’s my card:

A Happy Thing, Artisan Embellishments Kit, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, TCC30,JAI253

I’ve created this card for this week’s Card Concept Challenge.  Here’s the banner and link to that challenge:And how closely does this card fit with this week’s Just Add Ink Challenge?

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Style.  The Card Concept challenge asks us to define the style of the card we design.  I would classify this card as clean, but it it clean and simple, clean and layered or clean and graphic?  Because of the beautiful detail created by the laser cutouts, I’m going to go with Clean and Graphic.  The red behind the white cutouts creates a bold graphic look that’s hard to miss.  There are definitely a few layers here, but it’s the graphic that pops the most to me.
  • Layers.  The stencil from the Artisan Embellishment Kit serves as the focal point for this project and the top layer of the front panel.  While it appears that the panel of red roses is layered on top of a black border, there’s actually another layer of red beneath the white roses, but closely to fit just under the roses.  That’s a total of six layers, including the sentiment that rests on top.A Happy Thing, Artisan Embellishments Kit, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, TCC30
  • Artisan Embellishment Kit.  While the Artisan Embellishment Kit doesn’t fit into my typical style (doilies, buttons, flowers and ribbons), I’m so in love with this die-cut piece (there are two in the kit) that I can’t stay away.  Once side of this template is Sahara Sand, and the other is Whisper White.  You can see all the components of this kit in the product lists below.  If you, by chance, missed my video about using this die cut as a stencil, please check it out here.

Stamp Sets:  A Happy Thing  Papers:  Rose Red, Basic Black, Whisper White  Inks:  Jet Black StazOn  Accessories:  Artisan Embellishment Kit, 1-3/8″ Circle punch, 1-3/4″ Circle punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to The Card Concept site and Just Add Ink to see the projects their design teams have created and to play along with these challenges.

  1. Lovely Brian, elegant and beautiful. From the three choices you mentioned, Clean and Graphic definitely describes your creation.
    Thank you for sharing.

  2. Pretty ! Thank you for showing the layers . I think I am going to have to get this kit for the stencils ! Are they sturdy enough to rinse off to reuse ?

    • Sonny, The “stencil” is really a diecut from a sturdy cardstock. Can you use it over and over? Yes. Do you need to rinse it off? No. The paper will just absorb the ink you use on it. I’ve focused on this diecut (because I’m not huge into ribbons and buttons and doilies), but those are in there, too! 🙂

  3. Wow! This is beyond impressive!

  4. Very striking, Brian! Love the graphic feel to your card! It would be good for the Just Add Ink challenge this week too!

    • Thanks for the heads-up, LeAnne! I have added my card to this challenge and have added the banner to my post. How fun and coincidental! 🙂 I mean, I was inspired by the challenge that posted this morning to make that card last night. 🙂

  5. Quite elegant, Brian. Fabulous card!!!!!

  6. I’m running out of adjectives for your work, Brian. This card is so so pretty. And I’ve been dithering about whether I should order this embellishments kit, just to get the roses. They are beautiful, but not fussy. They make me think of a woodcut. Let’s petition Stampin’ Up! to keep the dies in the new catalog! Or to make a new thinlit! Oh, the possibilities!

  7. Thanks for your answer . I wondered if I could reuse the stencil because I like those roses to use with different ink colors . Plus you get some other goodies too !

  8. Striking, simple and beautiful.
