Paper Storage in the Fungeon: Designer Series Paper

Before I jump into today’s blog post, I am happy to offer a reminder that Stampin’ Up!’s FREE SHIPPING period starts TODAY!  Woo hoo!  Between now and Friday, April 10, there is no charge for shipping on all Stampin’ Up! orders – does it get any better than that?!?   More information at the end of this post.

I’ve received a lot of questions from customers and blog readers who want to know how I organize my “stuff” in the Fungeon, and I’m happy to share my methods with you.  Over the last couple of weeks, I shared my card stock storage – you can see those posts here:

Today, I’m happy to share with you how I store my Designer Series Paper.  I LOVE all of my Designer Series Paper, so it’s very important for me to keep it organized and well-preserved. I keep all my Designer Series Paper in large, plastic crates – I have three of these creates (one for Annual Catalog DSP, one for mini-catalog DSP and one for Background Designer Series Paper Stacks/other 12″ x 12″ papers).  I store my opened packs of Designer Series Paper in pocket folders I picked up at a local craft store – they have snaps to accommodate the amount of paper in each folder.  I label each folder with the name of the Designer Series Paper pack.

Here’s how my Sweet Dreams folder looks when I pull it from the crate:

Paper Storage Ideas, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingThe contents of each file are as follows (moving from back-to-front inside the folder):

  • Thick Chipboard.  As I have purchased Specialty Designer Series Papers over the years, I’ve kept all the thick chipboard that accompanies some of them.  I keep one piece of that chipboard in the back of each folder to make sure the papers stay firm and unbent.
  • Unopened Pack of Designer Series Paper.  If I have an unopened pack of the Designer Series Paper, I will store it next (back-to-front).  It adds to the firmness of the folder.
  • Full, Opened Pages.  Any full pieces of Designer Series Paper are stored next.
  • Pocket of Scraps.  When I open the first pack of Designer Series Paper, I carefully cut the top off and pull the pages out.  I keep the white cardboard in the plastic wrapping to store my scraps.  Conveniently kept in the front of each folder, I always have a quick glance at what scraps I have on-hand.

I also love my Designer Series Paper Stacks.  I keep them carefully tucked away in Large Wood Mount Stamp Cases – they fit perfectly.  Here’s an unopened pack of All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack, an opened pack and some scraps:

They store nicely on a shelf with the other Designer Series Paper Stack:

Paper Storage Ideas, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI hope you find these tips for storing Designer Series Papers helpful.  I’ve been using this system for storing my Designer Series Papers for quite some time, and I’m really happy with it.  Everyone has different needs and different ways for storing their papers, but this way works wonderfully for me.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Hi Brian – thanks for sharing all your storage tips! Are your pocket folders 12 x 12 and do they have a gusset? I am not sure we can get pocket folders in this size in the UK though!

  2. I did not realize the paper stacks fit in the wood mount cases. Thank you for this fabulous ides.

  3. Hi Brian,
This weekend I went out and bought a mobile file cart to store my SU card stock! And this idea, BRILLIANT! Thank you!

  4. Super helpful Brian. Thanks a bunch for sharing.
    🙂

  5. Good system. I may move to the snap folders for my DSP. Thanks.

  6. Good system Brian and thanks for the tip on the wood mount cases for storage of small packages of paper. I never thought of that. I use a 12×12 cropper hopper ( I think the brand is) of a file folder without gusset or snap to hold my designer paper. I don’t usually have more than one package, if I do, I put a note in file to look elsewhere. I also attach a note that tells me the colors in the papers. I attach it right under the file tab. I also like the chipboard idea and the pocket of scraps. I also like the idea of 3 crates. I might divide mine into current and retired though. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Thank you for sharing the way you store your supplies. I’m getting some wonderful ideas. I do have a question though, if you use the plastic cases your wood stamps come in for paper, how do you store your stamps?

    • Thank you for the comment, Melanie. The plastic cases are available for purchase in the Annual Catalog (and included under “storage” in the online store, so I ordered up some extras to store my paper in. I hope that helps!

  8. Brian, thanks for your great storage ideas, and also for clarifying that your folders are 12×12. (In your photos the DSP and folders look like 8 1/2 x 11.)

  9. I’m really loving all these wonderful tips, Brian! I believe I need to make a trip to the local craft store since I store my designer papers in the same packaging they come in. I’m very careful not to rip the edges when placing a piece back inside after I’ve used it. How much easier to get those pocket folders with snaps to accommodate the size you need! Oh, my papers are placed in a desk drawer, one on top the other, so when I need one on the bottom……well, let’s just say that the pile is getting heavier all the time! Enough said, to the craft store I go~

  10. Thanks, Brian, for the tips. I’m not a SU demonstrator. I have a craft room that gives me peace when I make cards for family and friends only…no blog and I don’t enter challenges. Therefore I have products from several different companies. I had wondered how you demonstrators could keep all your supplies organized with the names of everything. I love how you’ve done it. It’s always interesting to see the creative ideas others have for their storage. I agree with you about having to have it out where I can see it or it never gets used.

  11. I love to organize, reorganize and then do it again. In all the years I have been doing this I never thought about storing my DSP pkgs in the wood stamp cases!!!! FREE SHIPPING this week – guess what I will be ordering.
Thanks so much Brian – I do enjoy your blog and sense of humor.

  12. Thank you so much, Brian, for sharing your wonderful storage tips! There are several I am planning to implement in my own craft space.

  13. I love the tip to store DSP stacks in the wood mount cases. Fabulous idea Brian!

  14. Thank you for sharing such great ideas for storing your DSP and DSPS. I have a system in place but have never really been happy with it. Incidentally, we did share the same system for storing regular paper so I see no reason why I shouldn’t adopt the rest of your paper storage ideas and call it good….well, actually I will call it the BK Paper Storage System and, you don’t mind if I make a DVD of it and sell it on ETSY, do you?
    Happy Monday!!!

  15. Brian, thank you for all your storage tips! for me they are especially helpful as I must reorganize both my scraps and my DSP!

  16. Thanks for sharing your storage tips, Brian. I have a small space and can put these ideas to good use. I really like the idea of the pocket folders and the crates.

  17. HI Brian:

I pretty much store my DSP the same way with one exception……….in front of the folder I clip the samples stack you make. That way I can glance through and see which paper I want to use before even opening the paper pack and grab a coordinating 8-1/2″ X 11″ piece of cardstock to match. Thank you for making those. Saves me a lot of removing and putting paper back into it’s “envelope”. I hope I explained that correctly.

  18. I’m finding your tips on storage and organization very helpful Brian. Thank you

  19. Brian -I am super excited to see you can store stacks in our wood cases -LOVE LOVE LOVE thank you!

  20. I love your tips Brian. I actually, finally, after many years, had a friend make my craft room for me. I was lucky to get lots of cabinets that were in our warehouse at the bank storage unit and they didn’t charge me for them. Although I have great pull out drawers for my Big Shot items, stamps, etc., and special angled shelves that fit the SU punches, I am still working on paper storage. I love your ideas, and I wish I could find a unit that would fit inside my cabinet, so the sun doesn’t fade the card stock. I put my dsp in a large tote and although it’s in alpha order, (I write the name on the white card board that comes in the package), I still have a scrap “bin” that drives me nuts. I think I am off to get those pocket folders because having the scraps WITH their full size pages makes so much more sense! 🙂 Thanks for these awesome tips! I would love to see your fungeon one day.

  21. Thanks for sharing these tips! I store my 12 x 12 DSP the same way, with the coordinating colors listed because I still can’t tell them all by sight. But, I hadn’t found a good way to store my stacks except for just stacking the stacks in a stack. 🙂 I can’t wait to try your method!

  22. More great ideas – I have all the old SU 12 x 12 paper holders and dividers and that is where I keep my full sheets – but always losing the scraps down in between – so your idea of keeping them in a stamp storage box is great – also I am among those that didn’t realize the DSP paper stacks would fit in there – luckily I have a few extra – so organizing them today will be one of my chores. Thanks again.

  23. Brian I love using the woodmount case for gifting a set of cards for friends or host, now because of your tip I’ll get extra for precut card-mats and card bases for my whisper white and Very Vanilla. Thanks so much!

  24. Hi BRIAN, I too have my DSP on those 12x12keepers w/ a snap, I love them , I also put the name of them so i can fine them quick, I love your tips , thanks keep them coming,
    Hugs Frenchie ,

  26. Great tip on the WM cases! I will definitely do that with my stacks. Thank you!

  27. Love the storage ideas! Do you have the colors of the patterns memorized? How do you know/remember what to grab? I love DSP but tend to hoard it because I forget what all I have… 🙁

  28. LOVE the tip about the wood mounted cases – so going to be doing that!!! I also like the snap folders – never seen those. I wonder if I can find them on Amazon… Thanks for the tips!!

  29. Brian, once again, you’re a genius! I love love love the Wood Mount boxes idea for your paper stacks. I’d not realised they fitted so nicely. I’m always wondering how I ought to store those cute little stacks so they don’t get lost or damaged. Now I know! Looks like they will be on my next order for sure – I keep buying them and then using them up!

  30. That is a great idea @ WM cases!! Thanks for sharing Brian!

  31. Brilliant! I would expect nothing less 🙂

  32. Oh I love that Brian, tfs
I need to buy some of the wood stamp boxes , love your ideas
    Hugs frenchie

  33. Love all these ideas! Thank you for sharing!

  34. Thanks for the organizing tips! What is the name brand of the snap storage pockets – I can’t seem to find them.
    Thank you!
