Sorry You’re Sick for FMS184

It’s been a while since I’ve talked about My Bucket of Lost Dreams, a container that holds scraps and pieces from cards that never saw the light of day.  I keep the pieces there and just reach in when I want to make a quick card.  This sentiment has been sitting in the Bucket of Lost Dreams for almost three months now.  Here’s my card:

Fabulous Four, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS184

And here’s the Freshly Made Sketches challenge banner that inspired my project:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Masking.  This sentiment, cropped with Word Bubbles Framelits, has been sitting around for a while.  I’m so happy I was able to finally use it.  “Sorry You’re Sick” was stamped with VersaMark (I masked off the rest of the sentiment) and heat embossed with White Embossing Powder.  The rest of the image was masked and stamped at the base of the Sahara Sand panel.  To see my video about masking, click here.
  • Color Combination.  The colors on this card are 100% inspired by the combination of colors found in the Moonlight Designer Series Paper Stack – Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey and Sahara Sand.  If you like this combination, too, feel free to save this:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Staying Neutral.  With the bursting shades of purple and yellow in this Designer Series Paper Stack and the bold Blackberry Bliss word bubble, I wanted to make sure the Sahara Sand really pulled through on the band that runs across the front of the card.  Hello Honey just wasn’t working – seems inappropriate to give a sick person a card that looks jaundice.  Hello Honey – no.  Sahara Sand – yes.

I hope you’ll pop over to Freshly Made Sketches to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

  1. I love this……the black is perfect against the neutral!

  2. Super cute card and looks like it would go together quickly. I haven’t used the first piece of the paper stack, grrrrr, I did to dig it out today! Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. Don’t you love that Moonlight DSP?! Glad your Bucket of Lost Dreams got a work out. (I think my box called “Things I Might Use Someday” must be similar!)

  4. Good Morning Brian:

Love, love, love this card. I think the color combo today is very soothing which is exactly what a sick person needs. I once sent a really funny card to a friend in the hospital – big mistake! She actually busted out a few stitches from laughing. However, you don’t want to go to the other extreme and be so gushy the person you send it to thinks their dying either. So that is why I think this card is perfect! Sweet, soothing and thoughtful – the perfect combo for a sick friend. Thanks Brian – you always manage to hit the nail on the head. Hugs! 🙂

  5. Brian, the cards you’ve been making lately have really been in my little neutral wheelhouse. The DSP works so well with the Sahara Sand and the Blackberry Bliss border adds that special accent. Great job Brian.

  6. Bucket of Lost Dreams!! OMG love that. For some reason I just set my extra parts in different containers around my room… now I will gather them all and put them in their own bucket of lost dreams. I may even label it 😀
Thanks for sharing with us, that’s a fantastic card as usual.

  7. Great card Brian! I love the colours! Great take on the sketch! I totally love that speech bubble! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!
