Cozy Christmas for PPA273

For this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge, I made a very basic, yet bold, card.  The end result is a simple, elegant card that’s both thin and long (more about that later).  I just love this combination of colors for Christmas – Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green and Very Vanilla.  With sketch and colors in place, the stage was all set for this beautiful sentiment.  Here’s my project:

Cozy Christmas, Peaceful Wreath, Stampin' Up!, PPA273And here’s Nicole Watt’s sketch that inspired my card:

PPA273There’s more to this card!  You’ll want to come back on Saturday – I’ll be sharing a video of what’s on the inside of this card – and I think you’ll like it.  🙂

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Cozy Christmas and a Square Trick.  What a great stamp set Cozy Christmas is!  Not only are the images great – I used the sweet, snowy house in my video yesterday (see it here) – but the sentiments are super-adorable.  It’s the perfect set to pick up during Stampin’ Up!’s 15%-off Stamps Sale (that’s for you, Sonny).  I stamped this sentiment with Garden Green ink on Very Vanilla paper and cropped it with a Squares Collection Framelits.  I then trimmed away at the edges (each side equally) until I had the size square I wanted – much easier than trying to get a perfect square with a trimmer.

  • Tone-on-Tone.  I was determined to make this sentiment the focal point of this card.  When I decided to add the boughs from Peaceful Wreath, I stamped them in Garden Green on Garden Green cardstock.  This gives the panel texture and the image of the beautiful holly without distracting from the sentiment that’s front-and-center.
  • Classic Christmas Color Combination.  As I mentioned earlier, the classic color combination was one of my “starters” on this project.  I’ve missed Garden Green this year – it’s not in any of our Designer Series Papers for Christmas, so it has mostly stayed tucked away.  No longer!  I was determined to use her today.  If you, too, like this color combination, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up!
