A Box of Cards for a Friend

It’s a simple fact – we all love to make greeting cards.  Some people enjoy the creative process, while others only enjoy creating.  Some actually send our cards to loved ones and some collect the cards they’ve made, while others love to sell or give cards that others can send.  It takes all kinds of people, right?

When my friend’s husband was horribly injured in an automobile accident (he was on his bicycle and was struck by a car), people from all over reached out to help – helping with her children, feeding their family.  I knew Marti would have lots of “thank you” notes to send out.  I also knew she would not be happy to send out store-bought cards.  With two young children and a hospitalized husband, Marti had no time or energy to make elaborate cards.  When she reached out to me to order a few packs of Stampin’ Up! notecards, I obliged (with a wink).  I knew I wasn’t going to place that order for her – I had another project in mind.

That weekend, I sat down with four packs of Stampin’ Up! Notecards (one of my favorite products in the Stampin’ Up! catalog) and made thank you notes to give to Marti.

Quick-and-Easy Thank You Notes, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

80 Notecards and the corresponding envelopes (see them in the back?) fit snugly into this storage container I picked up years ago at Office Depot.  The lid fits perfectly over top and clamps down on the side.  Here are the four designs I created with some simple stamped images and super-quick layers:

Quick-and-Easy Thank You Notes, Stampin' Up!, Brian King I intentionally created each with a simple “thank you” and a masculine appeal.  I wanted to make sure they’d represent Marti’s thankfulness but also her husband’s.  Since some of these cards would be sent to her husband’s friends, I wanted to make sure they would work for almost anyone.  Here are the products I used for each of the cards (left to write):

  • CARD ONE.  Stamp Sets:  Another Thank You  Papers:  Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack (Basic Black), Basic Black, Thick Whisper White, Whisper White Notecards and Envelopes  Inks:  Archival Basic Black  Accessories:  Extra-Large Oval punch,  Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • CARD TWO.  Stamp Sets:  Happy Happenings  Papers:  Into the Woods Designer Series Paper, Mossy Meadow, Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Crumb Cake Notecards and Envelopes  Inks:  Mossy Meadow  Accessories:  1-3/4″ Circle punch, 2″ Circle punch, Washi Label punch,  Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • CARD THREE.  Stamp Sets:  Tin of Cards  Papers:  Into the Woods Designer Series Paper, Soft Suede, Tangelo Twist, Whisper White, Whisper White Notecards and Envelopes  Inks:  Tangelo Twist  Accessories:  Tags & Labels Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • CARD FOUR.  Stamp Sets:  Something to Say  Papers:  2014-2016 In Color Designer Series Paper Stack (Lost Lagoon), Crumb Cake, Lost Lagoon, Whisper White, Crumb Cake Notecards and Envelopes  Inks:  Lost Lagoon  Accessories:  1-1/4″ Circle punch, 1-3/8″ Circle punch, 2″ Circle punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

If you plan right, you can make a bunch of cards in a short time with limited supplies.  These were fun to crank out, and I couldn’t be happier than to know that Marti could grab a couple at a time to send out without a lot of hassle.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Wonderful idea! If you didn’t want to make that many cards – say just one pack – putting postage stamps on them would be a wonderful gift too. But, that is an awesome sight seeing that many cards in a great storage container! Thoughts, prayers, and well wishes to Marti and her family.

  27. Great idea ! I did this for my sister on a smaller scale and she loved it !
Good wishes to Marti and her hubby !

  28. Brian, you are a true friend, helping out your friend Marti in her hour of need, this is just like you, my dear, even without asking, you come to our aid.
This gesture of friendship will be greatly appreciated, believe me, she will forever remember this token of kindness from you.
I truly hope her husband is on his way to fully recover from this accident, getting hit while riding your bike is horrible, (I’ve been chased by dogs and fallen of my bike, not fun:() but getting hit by a car is a different story.
Please tell Marti we are all thinking of her and praying for her husband’s full recovery soon.
    Sending tons of healing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  29. Thank you Brian for such a thoughtful idea! I now am ‘aware’ of the notecards and envelopes in the Catalog…didn’t see them till you pointed it out! Awesome! Thank you!

  30. My sisters and I do not exchange gifts at Christmastime but I make an “ungift” of 5f all-occasion cards for each of them and also include my two daughters-in-law in my handmade gift. I like the idea of including stamps!

What a thoughtful way to let Marti know you are in her corner…showing that bit of kindness will do worlds for her.

  31. My friend and up line, Laura Barto, provides thank you notes to give to people when they have suffered a loss in their families. Same idea, you want and need to send out notes, but the ones the funeral home provides are pretty sterile. When my mom died, the notes we were given to use had been chewed on by mice. Can we say hurrah for rural Kansas, where I grew up? Thanks Brian for sharing dimensions for the cards too. You are one of the good guys!

  32. Such a thoughtful idea. Your lovely gesture is such a part of what Stampin’ Up is all about! Thanks for reminding me to “share” more of what I love to do!

  33. What a sweet friend you are! Blessings to Marti and her family 🙂

Brian, your kindness brought tears to my eyes. I lost my husband two years ago and even though I’m a card maker I wish I would have had nice homemade cards to send out to friends that I didn’t have to make. I’m sure your friend was extremely grateful.
