Woo Hoo for You for FabFri78

Sketch challenges can be easily converted into a Christmas project, so I’ve been making Christmas cards for months.  A circle on a sketch becomes an ornament, and a square is turned into a package under the tree.  It’s counter-intuitive, then, that a sketch with two Christmas trees should be converted into a “way to go” card.  Well, that’s how I roll, and that’s what I did with this week’s FabFriday sketch.  I used a variety of soft and vibrant colors to make a super-fun, celebratory card that would make anyone happy.  Here’s my card:

All Boxed Up, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri78

And here’s Mindy Backes’ sketch for this week’s challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Woo Hoo for All Boxed Up.  This sentiment is from an easy-to-overlook stamp set in the Annual Catalog, but it’s definitely worth a look-see.  I love each of the sentiments that are perfect for a variety of cards.  Designed to coordinate with the All Boxed Up Kits, these sentiments are filled with inspiration and kind support.  If you don’t have this set, please take another look to see if this set might make it to your wishlist.

  • Bold Stars.  I must have cropped 25 stars in different colors and sizes before arriving at this combination that I liked so much.  This was one of those “I’m just not getting what I want” projects – until I arrived at exactly what I wanted.  Yippee-doodle-dee!  Like the card I shared on Tuesday (see it here), the big pop of bold is right in the middle of the card.  For this project, the bold, Tangelo Twist star is positioned in the center of the long, thin panel and is positioned in the middle of the card – as such, your eye goes right to it.  There rest of the card is there to balance out the weight of that star – and I’m pleased with the way it all turned out.  I’ll offer up a little more information about how I layered these stars this weekend – but you’ll have to come back.  🙂
  • Sweet Color Combination.  Bright, bold and soft – all of these colors come together perfectly to create a beautiful card.  The color choices were pulled directly from Sweet Li’l Things Designer Series Paper, and I love them here.  If you like these colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 1. This is such a “YOU” card, Brian, in my opinion! Everything about it says “Brian”! Love the stars, the DSP, and the “white space”! Happy day after Thanksgiving!

  2. Good morning my pal and friend , hope your thanksgiving was wonderful,
Your card is lovely Brian, only YOU, my friend, can think of something so unique,
    Hugs to you !!!!!

  3. Your card is awesome; I love everything about it. And I agree that it would have been too easy and unnatural to use trees in place of trees on the sketch. 🙂

I haven’t been able to Pin your Color Inspiration pics lately. I’m wondering if others are having the same problem?

  4. My favorite part is how you used the two similar but contrasting patterns. Very subtle and cool.

  5. Oh my stars, I love your card! 🙂

  6. Yippee Doodle dee!!! You’re card is amazing…just love the moment when it all comes together!!!

  7. Great card! I ordered this set for the sentiments, but haven’t used it yet. Can’t wait for some craft time! Thanks for the inspiration!
