Celebrate with Cake for PPA285

For today’s Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge, Jackie Diediker (this week’s Featured Designer), chose three colors that are sure to inspire you. Watermelon Wonder, Pink Pirouette and Tip-Top Taupe.  Say that five times fast!  I was excited to play with these colors and created a soft, but fun birthday card.  Here’s my project for Jackie’s color challenge:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

• Coming Clean.  Jackie’s color combination incorporates Pink Pirouette.  While all of the other designers used these colors, I unintentionally used Blushing Bride to make my card.  That’s what I get for committing the colors to memory and then heading downstairs to create.  🙂  Before you come to my house with fires on sticks (like the crowd of unhappy people in Beauty & the Beast), please know that this is TOTALLY allowable by the rules of the challenge.  If you don’t have one of the colors, you can certainly replace it with a look-alike.  These are meant to be a guide or inspiration.  In conclusion, I stand behind my wrong selection of colors.
• Second Layer.  I masked this sentiment from Party with Cake (I placed tape over the letters I didn’t want to ink up, inked up, removed the tape and stamped) to only use the second and third row of the sentiment, which reads “IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE WITH CAKE.”  This big, bold sentiment is so much fun and so very flexible.  The last time I used it was on a project where I masked off the stamp to feature only the first and second rows (you can see that card here).  Such a fun sentiment with so many options!  I stamped and colored this sentiment twice and cropped each with different sizes of Ovals Collection Framelits.  I decided to layer them on top of each other to add depth and dimension to the card.
• Add the Envelope.  “Celebrate with Cake” says it all, in my opinion.  I’m directing you to eat cake in celebration of your big day.  I originally wanted to fit “They Say It’s Your Birthday” from Suite Sayings on the front of the card.  No room.  How about the inside of the card?  Neh – I have a lot to write inside.  The front of the envelope seems like a great place to build a little excitement, huh?
