I love the colors of Spring. Today’s FabFriday Color Challenge includes three soft and subtle colors – Calypso Coral, Pool Party and So Saffron. What a lovely collection of hues. I used them to make a soft and sweet card that showcases some of my favorite products from Stampin’ Up!’s 2015-2016 Annual Catalog and Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Occasions Catalog. Here’s my card for this color challenge:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Sunburst Sayings Bundle. Stampin’ Up!’s Occasions Catalog is packed with incredible bundles – combinations of a stamp set with a coordinating die or punch. I used the Sunburst Saying Bundle to create the key elements of this card – the sentiment is from the stamp set, and the starburst (dare I state the obvious) comes from the Thinlits Die. While I wasn’t initially “wow’d” by the stamp set, I decided to buy it with the Thinlits as a bundle – the additional cost was minimal. Where’s the “like” button when you need it?
- Sweet Li’l Things. By now, you should know that I love the Sweet Li’l Things Designer Series Paper pack, right? I’ve used almost every page of the paper for projects I have featured here. While the pack of paper is mostly geared toward “baby,” many of the pages can be used for other fun projects. Not only did the Pool Party page with the Very Vanilla clouds work for a backdrop on this card, but I added a thin panel of the Very Vanilla page with Pool Party clouds to the front panel. Just enough, not too much.
- Lots of Layering. You know how much I love a perfectly framed or layering image, right? Who wants a plain sentiment when they could have it backed with layers and layers of cardstock? Am I right?! 🙂 I cropped So Saffron cardstock with the Sunburst Thinlits die before cropping it again with an Ovals Collection Framelit. I layered that on top of a piece of Pool Party cardstock cropped with the same oval framelit. The sentiment is punched with a 1-1/4″ Circle punch, framed with a 1-3/8″ Circle punch and framed again with a 1-1/2″ Circle punch. Yippee!
Stamp Sets: Sunburst Sayings Papers: Sweet Li’l Things Designer Series Paper, Pool Party, So Saffron, Calypso Coral, Very Vanilla Inks: Calypso Coral Accessories: Sunburst Thinlits Dies, 1-1/4″ Circle punch, 1-3/8″ Circle punch, 1-1/2″ Circle punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the FabFriday site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Oh you clever, creative genius! I would never, ever have thought to crop the sunburst onto an oval. I want to know what you eat for breakfast that makes you so creative! Mary – tell me Brian’s secret!
I had a bagel this morning, Grace. Hope that helps. 🙂 Thanks for your kind words. <3
Does that creative brain of yours ever stop?! Great card.
No, never. Thanks, Sandra!
That Sunburst die looks so cool cut into an oval…will have to remember that! And those sweet cloud patterns are the perfect pairing for the sun! TFS!
Thanks, Amanda! These colors were more fun to work with than I originally anticipated.
Wow! What a great card, Brian!! You are the king of layering. Did I count 9 layers? That must be close to a record! I really like how you cropped the sunburst to match the oval, and using a partial sheet of DSP with the white layer is genius–great look. Love this card!
Sharon – I love when I can use lots of layers but still have a clean look. 🙂 Glad you like this. Thanks!
