An Outdoor Adventure with PPA311

Lynn Hoyt is hosting this week’s color challenge at the Pals Paper Arts, and she’s chosen three soft and sweet colors – Smoky Slate, Marina Mist and Pink Pirouette.  Does it get any softer than that?  I first envisioned the Smoky Slate mountains, followed by a Marina Mist sky.  A Pink Pirouette balloon was not far behind.  🙂  Thanks for the inspiration, Lynn!  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Outdoor Adventure.  Is there a better way to showcase Smoky Slate than with a range of snow-capped mountains?  The mountains and the little white caps of snow are part of the Outdoor Adventure Framelits dies – and I adore them.  I created a little “window” to this beautiful landscape with these Framelits and added a sweet hot air balloon with a stamp from the Always an Adventure stamp set.  There are so many great ways to use this set – the bear, the trees, the clouds…check out the bundle that combines all of these.

  • Black Border.  While the Smoky Slate pattern from A Little Foxy Designer Series Paper Stack is a wonderful element on this card, I only wanted it to be a background feature.  As such, I separated the other two panels with a thin black frame.  While there are many times when I would add a border around the background panel, too, the borders on the top two panels helps to draw focus right to the landscape window and sentiment.
  • Does it Get Any Happier Than This?  As I was looking for a sentiment to pair with this fresh, open-air scene and the soft, floating balloon, I thought this sentiment from the Love & Affection stamp set fit perfectly.  “you make me ridiculously happy”- the words are perfect, but lower-cased script is sweet and airy, too.

  1. Love your Smoky Mountains in Smoky Slate! Clever use of the balloon, too!

  2. Love the way the black really pops the mountain scene out. I would never have thought to do a “partial” scene separated from the sentiment. This card is simply fantastic, just like it’s designer.

  3. Gorgeous smoky slate mountains, Brian! And the black really makes those panels pop!

  4. Love how you explain your reasoning in detail esp for the “general” elements–borders etc. That black really sets everything off beautifully–otherwise the card would have been “dull”

  5. Impeccable matting Brian.

  6. Great scene! Love the matted panels and the fun balloon going over the mountains. So clever!

  7. Brian… love this “framed photo” card. This would be perfect on a traditional OR Project Life vacation scrapbook page. Love it!

  8. I love how that balloon is just blowing across the mountains Brian. Great card.

  9. What a great set to use for this color combination. Perfect colors for an outdoor theme and you showcased it beautifully!
