On Friday, I shared my project for this week’s FabFriday color challenge – Basic Black, Old Olive, Perfect Plum and Pumpkin Pie. I used this decidedly-Halloween colors to create a sweet way-to-go card – you can see that project here. While creating projects this past weekend, I decided to give these colors a spin on a spooky, fun card. Here’s my 5″ x 4-1/2″ card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Halloween Scenes Edgelits Dies. The spooky tree is the focal point of this fun Halloween card, don’t you think? The tree is part of an Edgelits Die, which means it is designed to crop along an edge. Framelits and Thinlits tend to crop out an entire image, while an Edgelit crops a border. This framelit cuts out the tree and crops along the grass, but it doesn’t cut the base of the ground so you can crop the tree anywhere on a piece of paper. The die, essentially, crops out the portion of the paper above the ground line and tree. I created cropped the tree out with a Layering Circle Framelits Die – you can see that project here. The negative space can be just as fun to use on a project. 🙂
- Background Texture. Perfect Plum, Garden Green and Pumpkin Pie are represented in the background of this card. I started with a striped black-and-white page of Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack – the Basic Black pages are my most-used pages from these stacks. I inked up a Gorgeous Grunge stamp with Perfect Plum and separately with Old Olive and stamped around the paper. I went back with another stamp from that same set and stamped tiny dots of Pumpkin Pie in the background.
- Mr. Funny Bones. I’ve used this sentiment before (it’s the only stamp I’ve used from the Mr. Funny Bones stamp set), but the stamp set is quite a great set with whimsical sentiments and adorable images. Not only can you build an adorable skeleton with this set, but there’s a candy skull, a crown and a top hat and cane. Before you pass on this set (if you don’t care to build a skeleton), please make sure you take a close look at the fun sentiments:
Stamp Sets: Mr. Funny Bones, Gorgeous Grunge Papers: Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack, Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black, Whisper White Inks: Perfect Plum, Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive Accessories: Halloween Scenes Edgelits Dies, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Heat Tool, Precision Base Place, Big Shot Die Brush, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the FabFriday site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian

WELL, I think everybody is giving the Gorgeous Grunge a thumbs up !
At first I thought you had found a new die because it looked like cut outs to me ! I like your card and also liked the other one you did using the negative and Basic Grey .
Also ….thank you for pointing out images or dies that are in sets that can be used other than for seasonal projects !
Love it Brian, lol. Your tree is so stunning, and I totally love the background paper! Totally trying that! Thanks for posting at Fab Friday!
