A Stroll Down Candy Cane Lane with FabFri99

For this week’s FabFriday sketch challenge, I turned to Candy Cane Lane Designer Series Paper for a delightfully layered and sweet card.  I pulled all of my colors from the gorgeous (and fun!) paper layered my card to fit Mindy Backes’ sketch.  Here’s my stroll down Candy Cane Lane:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Candy Cane Lane.  I adore the patterns, images and colors in the Candy Cane Lane Designer Series Paper pack.  From traditional to contemporary, this pack of papers has it all.  I pulled all four of the colors from the paper into my project and utilized two pieces in my design – the speckled background on the middle panel and the striped paper on the banner (I cut the diagonal paper along the lines for a cool strip across the Crumb Cake panel.  You can save this image or click on it to see the color references I created for the other Holiday Catalog papers:  Candy Cane Lane Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!DON’T FORGET!  This paper is just one of the papers ON SALE this month.  Through October 31, pick any three of the papers in this special and get one pack for free.  YIPPEE!  To see more, click on the DSP Special flyer at the base of this post.
  • Leave Space.  Do you like a clean design, but find it hard to accomplish?  This card has EIGHT layers of cardstock and Designer Series Paper, but it’s still crisp and clean.  Why?  For starters, I left a lot of white space around the sentiment.  While a smaller circle could have cropped the sentiment without cutting into the words, this circle gives just the right about of white space around the sentiment.  Do you agree?
  • Layer Measurements.  You like when I share measurements – and I like when you are happy.  Here are the measurements for the layers on my card, starting with the base and working my way up:
    • Real Red – 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″
    • Whisper White – 5″ x 3-3/4″
    • Candy Cane Lane Designer Series Paper – 4-7/8″ x 3-5/8″
    • Whisper White – 4-3/8″ x 3-1/8″
    • Crumb Cake – 4-3/16″ x 3-1/16″ (aligned with the top of the Whisper White panel)
    • Candy Cane Lane Designer Series Paper – 4-3/16″ x 1″
    • Real Red – 2-1/2″
    • Whisper White – 2-1/8″
